Question for the '64-'66 factory AC equipped trucks....

Is there a hose or tube that connects the evaporator vent to the blower motor? I have looked all through the factory manuals and have found no reference to anything of the sort. What I'm referring to is the short tube (approx. 5/8" diameter) that's a couple of inches above the drain tube. I'm assuming that it's an evaporator vent. It's right in line with the blower motor. On the later trucks (73-87, for sure), there is a rubber vent hose between the evap and the blower motor. Does the '64-'66 setup have something similar? If so, where can you find one?

I have a '64 factory accessory manual, and it did not show that view. I have discovered that the '64 AC set-up (which was a dealer installed kit) is kind of a unique deal. The recirc portion is different, it only had 2 pull knobs, and the AC wire harness is different in both connections and wire color. My '64 was missing the evaporator and the heater box when I got it, and I used parts from a '65.

Next question: Where can I find one of these tubes? Has anybody out there had to improvise and find a suitable substitute? I have a couple of vent hoses from a 73-87, and they won't work. The zig zag shape I need is going to be a challenge. On this truck, I'm not going 100% factory correct, so I am open for suggestions.

Is that the way yours came ? Only two knobs ? that's interesting. This book that I have is from an NOS 1964 AC kit . It shows the three pull knobs and template in this book. Instructions are dated 1963 and the accessory number 985790 , seems like they had different accessory number for 65 and 66. Your correct on the wire harness 2987199 is 1964 only, 65-66 is 2989258 . Wonder if yours was an earlier kit or something ?

I'm not sure on the early or late configuration. If you check out my build thread, there are some interior shots that show the two knob configuration. I wonder if there were two '64 AC retrofit kits available, one for a standard heater and the other for a recirculating heater? The dealer kit has cut instructions for the firewall and for the heater box and it doesn't specify which box you start with. Does your kit instructions show the drilling of the blockoff plate for the pull knobs? It may have a note for the drill measurements between a 3 knob and a 2 knob configuration. Interesting stuff!

My truck was found in a really weird configuration. Dealer installed AC, and everything on the engine side of the firewall was missing. Everything inside, including the underdash ashtray(!) was still there. Usually, those are the first pieces to disappear! I paid $200 for the entire truck, and I tell everybody that I bought an ashtray and I got the rest of the truck for free!

OK, checked your build. I misunderstood you . I was thinking of the three knobs on the right. In this kit there is an extra cable just for the recirculating heater . Non AC trucks would only have one pull knob but with AC they added the bottom one specific to that heater with different bezels.

I have one of those air conditioning units for sale on ebay with a big back window cab now......Mine has 3 levers and 3 pull knobs.....

if you are looking for the tube try 1982 corvette . it is the same tube with bend just a little bit longer , but you can cut to match
