64 C-10 Thrift Air Heater

Greetings!

Before I do anything, I wanted to get some advice. I am having some difficulties with my thrift air heater knob.

The heater has never worked from day 1 of purchasing the truck. If I turn the knob one turn to the right to attempt to regulate fan motor, I get a lot of static noise. It reminds me of radio static. And when I turn the knob the 2nd time past the first turn, the static noise increases. So no heat; just noise.

I cannot pull the knob out to open the air door. I cannot push it in either.

Any information would be helpful.

Sincerely,

Eddie

sounds like a mouse made a home in there. you can carefully take it loose from the firewall and empty out the debris that is likely causing your swishing noise. while you are out there you can look for what is blocking the door, my bet is acorns

I have the Thrift Aire setup in my Sub as well, and couldn't get my cable to work easily so I mounted the cable switch in the vise and ran some 3 in 1 oil down the housing and let it sit for about 2-3 days. It works great now. My motor was grinding when I turned it on and it melted the plug so had to replace motor. Works fine now

They do sell new cables if you need one, but make sure you hang on to the knob, they are as rare as hens teeth!

I've seen the cable/switch advertised but how do they look and work compared to the original? There aren't any pics of them in the catalogs.

I ended up taking my heater assembly all apart and cleaning it out and lubricating everything, works great. 50 years of crude, crap and rust.

I have purchased 2 new cables neither one worked. Tho OE has 4 spade connection, new ones had 5 in different order. I cannot find anyone that matches the original.
