Installed slider picture questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have two questions about sliders (read window). I picked one up, I think it's an original. It's silver, appears to be aluminum. Most aftermarket ones are black.

The questions are:

1) Can I retain my stainless molding in the weatherstripping? I've heard that it's been done, was perhaps always done for high model GMCs but not Chevrolets, and so on. But no matter what was correct, does it work? It'd look a lot nicer than just big black weatherstripping.

1a) Is it the same weatherstripping? Mine's brand new, just installed for a standard glass (non-slider). If so, what are the odds I can re-use mine? Or do they invariably get wrecked during removal?

2) Any chance someone can take a picture of the edge of an installed one so I can get an idea of how much it covers (how many sins it conceals!).

The slider I bought has a couple of rough spots. I imagine you could TIG it up with aluminum, grind it down, polish it out, and so on. I'd hate to go to all of that work and then find out later "Hey dummy, you know you can't see that part, right?"

Yes you can keep the stainless trim, not sure about the seal, and it covers up almost all the seal, so most all the face is visible.

GM never did it on anything. the sliders were installed post production on the factory lot by a vendor. I had a slider put in a Cheyenne and the trim wouldn't fit in right in the lower corners, but wasn't awful. All sliders were mill finish aluminum till the '80s, factory or aftermarket.

I put mine in. I bought new rubber and installed it. Sorry we are at the beach this weekend so all I have is what I have on the computer.

Dave the answers to 1 and 1a are yes. I don't have pics of corners at moment but here is a pic of my OEM slider with trim installed - from what I understand GM did not include the trim with factory sliders.

It is the same rubber seal, but it must be the correct year and the one for the stainless trim. It installs the same as for a glass window.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
