Lowering my 1970 C20

I am new to the board and have really enjoyed looking at everyones builds and the wealth of information found here. I am just starting a build on this truck and one of the first things I would like to address is lowering & converting to 5x5 lug and front Disc. I am hoping to drop front 5 1/2 " and possibly 7" in Rear.

I have some questions maybe you all could help me with:

Can I use a C10 Drop spindle kit on a C20?

What would be best way to achieve this drop?

Suggestions? Advice?

Thank you in advance for any and all help.

Re: Lowering my 1970 C20

I went with a 6 inch rear drop and 4 inch front drop. Used two inch lowering blocks and four inch shorter springs on the rear along with a bent pan hard bard for clearance and a c notch. The front was 2.5 inch drop spindle and 1.5 inch shorter spring.

Did you use a C10 Drop Spindle? Did you convert your Bolt Pattern to 5 lug?

Re: Lowering my 1970 C20

No 5 lug for me yet. I have 5/3 lowering so far. I used springs from GMC Paul's, relocated shocks and trac bar from CPP. Good luck!!!

Re: Lowering my 1970 C20

As I commented in your other thread, ECE is the only company that will let you keep all the rest of your suspension stuff and run 5 lug brakes with their spindle.

Scroll down here and see the C20-C10 spindle.
http://earlyclassic.com/catalog.aspx...ry=New%20Items

And here is a good link that covers many of the questions you have.

Just wondering if I can use C10 spindles on a C20? Are they that different?

Was also looking at the possibility of:

Doesn't mcgaughy have a 63-70 drop/stock spindle 5x5 and 6x5 setup? I just bought the 6x5 for my 68

Idk about spindles though if c10=c20

Basic 12" 5x5

http://www.mcgaughys-suspension.com/...ys-part-63156/

63-70 drop spindle used that year ball joints and tie rods.

13" upgraded 5x5 kit drop spindle included

Rodzilla67,

Lots of info on front changeout.

What is your plan on converting the rear end to 5 bolt?

I planned on changing the axles. I assume this is a reasonable method? Also still wondering if I can use c10 spindles on a c20?

Yes and No.
3/4 ton lower a--arms have a larger balljoint hole.
You will need 1/2 ton lower a-arms and you will have to switch to 1/2 ton balljoints and outer tie rods.
Simpler choice is to use the "3/4 to 1/2 ton CONVERSION spindles" offered by ECE.

C20 spindles are TOTALLY DIFFERENT than the C10 version

Where did you find the 2-inch lowering blocks and did they come as a kit with the longer u-bolts?

Here's a couple good threads to look at.
Member way2lo2 is a good source for lowering blocks and u-bolts.
