Ebay purchase, need opinions

A buddy of mine just purchased this truck:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Supercharged...vip=true&rt=nc

I'm going to look at it and pick it up next weekend. It seems like a really good deal, but I was wondering if knows anything about it. The truck is currently located in Tampa. Thanks in advance.

Don't know the truck, but I've had a 383 with that exact blower and they run really well and long as long as motor internals are correct of course. It should fry the tires!

Smokin deal! You can definitely buy these trucks cheaper than you can build them.

Couldn't have done better, by far! I even get a good vibe from the seller. Seems knowledgeable, is the one who built it (or had done) , did it all right, offered the important info and spared the BS, and invites any further questions except the one you don't need to know unless you are bidding. I get the vibe this wasn't the first, only, or last

Very nice looking truck if as advertised. The drivetrain and suspension alone gets you close to the sale price. Looks like a good score to me.

Re: Ebay purchase, need opinions

As most everyone has pointed out, you couldn't build it for that.

Likely not an issue on this purchase since it's in Tampa, but as soon as I saw how lush the trees in the photos were (in March) I started to wonder "How old are these photos?"

Many people a LOT of photos right after they finish a project. Then, when it's time to sell, even detailed doesn't look like new, but it's close enough, so they wind up using the 'when built' photos.

Other than me not being familiar with the Tampa climate (his next purchases: power windows and Vintage Air), nothing about this sale in particular, it's just something people should keep in mind I think.

Re: Ebay purchase, need opinions

Those trees look perfectly normal for the dead of winter in Tampa. Bone chilling to us is 40 degrees. We do have some trees that loose leaves, but it's usually in February and before the last leaf falls, the new growth starts.

Hart Rod: I've asked several of the Florida boys and none of us have seen that truck before. My take on it just from the Ebay ad is, your friend got a great deal and will be very happy with that truck, congratulations! Let us know if you need anything while your in town.

Re: Ebay purchase, need opinions

Thanks guys. He sent some pictures of the title, SPID, and sticker of the VIN. Am I mistaken to think that a 70 had a metal VIN Plate on the door just like my 68?

Re: Ebay purchase, need opinions

That truck or any truck(67-72) should have a metal vin plate on the drivers door jam similar to your 68. Some 1970s had 2 small vin plates(one vin, one safety standards) like your 68, but most 1970s had the big single vin plate.

Re: Ebay purchase, need opinions

That's a dang good buy on that truck BUT it always bugs me when I see a SPID gouged up like that - particularly the wheelbase part. I'd be very suspicious about whether that's a former long wheelbase truck. If it's done right that may not be a problem, but if it was cut and not disclosed that leaves me wondering what else they forgot to disclose.

Re: Ebay purchase, need opinions

Looks like a nice truck at the right price, agree with everyone else above. As with any SWB truck I'd like to see if it's an original frame or if it's been cut down. If cut and done right, I wouldn't have a problem as long as it was done properly. I'll bet it's an original frame, the seller does seem like he knows what he has, and would mention it in his description if it were altered. That drivetrain is going to give someone a lot of smiles and a lead foot

Re: Ebay purchase, need opinions

There should be a metal Vin plate on the drivers door jam. The sticker he sent a photo of is on the door itself. I'd make sure it has rosette rivets attaching the metal Vin plate or could be an issue registering it if it has to pass inspection. Looks like a dang sweet truck!

Re: Ebay purchase, need opinions

He finally sent a picture of the metal door tag, it was painted over. The numbers match and the rivets are correct, so I think it's legit. Hopefully it will show as well in person. We should know Saturday morning....

The numbers do not match 140Z and 104Z. Big Deal? Or just a typo?

Typo on the title. 4 refers to Pickup. 0 refers to 1970. If it was 04 the 0 would be incorrect, and the 7 would refer to 1974.
It is something to check out though. It would suck if that was a stolen truck, and it was under the radar because someone transposed two numbers on the title. It's a stretch, but not impossible.
