73-87 motor mount spacer for 60-62 frame

Gentlemen, I'm sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here. I've run into a possible problem and have been searching and reading threads and can't find what spacer to run the 73-87 1/2 ton towers with the 60-62 frame. I've seen lots of guys use the 67-72 or the newer 3/4 ton towers.

I thought I was on the right track and thought I needed 1 1/2" spacer, but trying to put the engine after I had those and looking at it. Something just doesn't seem right, looks like the front is too high but the brackets seem to fit nicely with the frame. Put the radiator and fan on and the bottom of the fan was 6 11/16 and the top was 7 1/8". The rearward hole even lined up nicely. I took the best pictures I could, sorry if they're too big.

Thanks for any input. This whole project is 2 steps forward and at least 1 step back. I guess that's normal when you're trying to make sure everything is done once and correctly.

Re: 73-87 motor mount spacer for 60-62 frame

I have a 61 and used the 67-72 perches. Used two 1/2 inch blocks stacked on each side.

Needs 1" spacing off the frame...here is the final product. Yours is different but should still fit.

Re: 73-87 motor mount spacer for 60-62 frame

Both the '73-'87 C20 and C30's have the shorter engine mount brackets, which fit the earlier frames better than the C10 brackets. That is why I always recommend them for use in the '63-'72 trucks.

Re: 73-87 motor mount spacer for 60-62 frame

Thanks guys, I'll have to try a 1" spacer for now. I'm on a real time crunch to get my truck mostly assembled to get it out of the garage its at and finding a babysitter is like pulling teeth.

get a set of 63 thru 66 frame mounts and they will fit without any spacers. just drill a few 3/8 holes.

Re: 73-87 motor mount spacer for 60-62 frame

I have to disagree. The '63-'66 frames are taller than the '60-'62 frames, so a spacer is still needed. I usually recommend the '67-'72 small block engine mount brackets. Those will work on the '60-'62 frame with little to no spacer.

Re: 73-87 motor mount spacer for 60-62 frame

I'm going to take captains advice and track down some 67-72 brackets. From what I've found there are a few different kinds of the "clamshells" and I'm pretty sure I've got the wrong ones. It's hard to find the shells with the brackets without an engine attached to them. And when you're hunting parts in junkyards, like me, that makes it pretty much impossible to get.

Re: 73-87 motor mount spacer for 60-62 frame

I've only found 2 different heights of 'clamshells' and about 95% of them are one size. If you got a set of frame brackets from a '73+ C20/30, you would still need a little spacer, but not as tall as what you have now.

Re: 73-87 motor mount spacer for 60-62 frame

Taking the Captains advice would be smart. I have a 61, used the 67-72 perches, fabbed a couple of spacers for each side and it all went together as it should have.
