I was rooting around a field today looking at an old early 50s Chevy pickup which had been shortened and perhaps lowered (probably sitting on it's frame) and noticed these rims. They say Ansen Sprint and appeared pretty darn wide. Anyone know the vintage of these perhaps? I would use them but I can't think of anything I would put them on being as how they're so wide.... perhaps the low profile tires made them seem wider than they were. Sorry didn't have a tape measure...

Thanks for the info guys. So the widest they would have gone would be 15 x 10? Wish I could get'em on my 74 Bronco.... alas, that damn 4 wheel drive....

Aluminum slots were the wheels to have in the late 60s to early 70s. My first set of aluminum slots were ET polished deep dish slots. Yeah I wish I still had them.

Yes, ETs were even more popular than the Sprints in my neck of the woods. King of the hill was always Cragar S/S followed closely by American Daisys. The Torq-Thrust D's weren't as common where I grew up (NW Indiana/Chicagoland) but they were elsewhere. Like em ALL!

I believe ET also had a cast spoked wheel like the Torque Thrust D I thought a lot of. Some brands were bought out by others and such over the years.
If I remember right I originally ordered Ansen wheels but could only buy two wheels since they went out of business so I returned the Ansens and bought the ETs instead. They were a lot of work to keep shiney. No clear coats back then. Dogs pissed on them and it took lots of semi chrome polish, an old t-shirt and finger work to get the piss ring out. We didn't have fancy electric pointed foam polishers to clean them with either. Yeah, the old days.

Thanks everyone for the information. Question--say I wanted to install these on my 74 Bronco and the bolt pattern matches in terms of dims. I'm kind of doubting that front hub would pass through the rim--is machining an option to get them to fit? Not wise? If not I will probably just sell them and would offer them here on the board. Still have to get them off the truck of course and evaluate condition!

Sure. I wouldn't hesitate. Look at the backside and as long as it's a solid flat surface there (which I'm sure it is) you can open them up. figure the bolt pattern dictates what mating surface it has and both 2wd and 4wd fords use the same pattern. I had some turbines that had mixed lug nut type. I got tired of tire service guys mucking things up so I got the correct size bit for the shank-type lug nuts (one was that style) and bored the rest out. Should have done that when I got them but I was scared I'd mess them up.
Ford made a wheel very similar but not real wide in the late-70s

I'm betting that wheel is 8"-8 1/2" wide. Is that a 14 on the sidewall in that pic?

All my 8-lug slots were American Racing. Many companies made them. Ansen was the sports car brand, but made many applications once they caught on. They were big on those basket style wheels (cast wire wheel look). The shortbed was just how you see it when I bought it, so no idea on brand of wheels. I need to find pictures of the '57 pickup I had years ago with slots to scan and put on the computer

Ansen rims are so much cooler than torq thrusts!

And then depression sets in .....

So I went and checked them out again, waitin for the ground to thaw a bit and they are indeed 15" buuuuuuuuuuuuuut the front ones are five lug and the rears 6! Note this truck is a vintage chopped rod so likely the front end (or rear or both) is from something else...... I'll grab 'em anyway, maybe someone here can use a pair here and there....

5 lug versions are the most common and can be found if you look hard enough. The 6 lug version is the more rare unicorn of them and the 8s well.. Very few people have those and those who do... never tell.
