Doing body work off the frame?

Hey guys. I took the cab off the frame of my truck and I'm replacing rockers and cab corners. Am I gonna run into trouble down the road when I bolt this thing back to the frame? Im just hoping everything stays square. Any of you guys do it this way?

Re: Doing body work off the frame?

I built a stand for mine that locates the original body mounts in their original location. New inner and outer rockers and cab corner installed. It's back on the frame now and the doors and fenders all line up no problems.

Did you bolt it to the stand?

Re: Doing body work off the frame?

Yes bolted it to the stand. Used new body mounts and torqued them down. The stand held the body in place very well. My body mount cross members were in good shape and didn't need any work.

Re: Doing body work off the frame?

Great idea just wish I would have though to do it prior to cutting....lol Mine is sitting on jack stands and seems square but we'll see. I only cut one side at a time so that should help.

Re: Doing body work off the frame?

Hahaha I did the same thing cut the drivers side inner and outer rocker off and then decided to put it on a stand. I built the stand and then verified the mounting holes measured out the same as the mounting holes on the frame. It was pretty solid even with them cut out. Worked out good.

Too bad you're not closer, you could borrow the stand.

I would highly recommend not doing body work off the grame. Gap all your metal how you want then start working on it. I've seen too many builds with BAD gaps and it drives me nuts, it can be avoided

I agree bad gaps drive me nuts too. I mad a bad decision and already did some cutting and welding while it was of the frame. I would bolt it up to the frame now but it's sitting on the garage floor bare freshly powder coated.
