What is this???

Been wondering what this is. The little round piece that has the electrical connection to it. It had hoses going to it but when I checked the hoses they went to... Nowhere. New to the c10 but not new to old Chevys. ALSO, new to the forum though! Thanks in advanced guys!

Re: What is this???

It does. Anyone know what it's for? I don't think its functioning. I unhooked the connector and truck runs fine. Would like to start cleaning up engine bay. Thanks!

Re: What is this???

It's not hooked up so get rid of it. Where do the wires go?

Re: What is this???

TVS.
Transmission vacuum switch! It's a solenoid.
Used to supply vacuum to your vac pot on your dizzy only when in high gear.
The one wire is 12v and the other runs down to a switch on your tranny. The switch on the tranny provides a ground completing the circuit in the solenoid and allows vacuum to the vac pot.
Theory was you didn't need vac advance until in high gear and cruising.

You need a supply for the vacuum. Comes from manifold vac port on the carb.
Manual trans was the only one used with a tvs. Usually a 3 speed or 4 speed with side levers like the muncie 318, saginaws or muncie m20, 21 or 22.

Re: What is this???

It's not connected to anything right now as you can see. Should I hook it up? Dizzy is hooked up to manifold vacuum on the carb. And the truck has a 3 speed!

Re: What is this???

Take it off, box it up and advertise it on evilbay as a nos tvs for a 69 L88 vette. Should be able to get at least a gazillion bucks for it. JK!!
Running your truck without it hooked up and hooking your vac to the carb like it is now hurts nothing.
How's your truck start without a choke?

Re: What is this???

Transmission controlled spark soleniod. Read up on pages 6T-1 and 2 in the factory service manual on how it works allowing spark advance in high gear only (3rd or 4th) on manual trans applications. Or High and reverse on automatics.

RTFM ... Read The Factory Manuals... download 'em here

Re: What is this???

The TVS zip tied to the choke was only available from the factory on Fords! I would take it off ASAP:-)
