Help. Panel and hood alignment.

So after changing inner fenders and installing the engine I put everything back together. The hood as has always seemed to rub but not like this. I have pics of the issues I am having. This is my first time disassembling a front end. any pointers or info would be great on helping me realigning everything.

Re: Help. Panel and hood alignment.

Looks like you cowl is bent on the driver side. Once that is resolved you can shift the hood foward to make sure it will clear your cowl as it opens then you can gradually adjust your hood up in the back to make level with cowl and then get a good gap. I will say that adjusting the sheet metal on these trucks can be very challenging.

Re: Help. Panel and hood alignment.

ok I think it is but you can see that the hood is rubbing in the back. I have another cowl but I don't want to put it on and the hood bend this one too. could the spring be sprung possibly?

Re: Help. Panel and hood alignment.

also I have taken the shim out of the cowl extension on the driver side for now. It is just temporarily on there as I have been trying to get the hood aligned properly and also the drivers fender. looking at some of the older pics before the inner fender swap it looks as though the driver fender never was aligned properly.

Re: Help. Panel and hood alignment.

You'll always have a little wiggle room with the attaching bolts but you have to make sure you put the shims back where they came from! Did the same thing with a front fender and all of a sudden the door jammed into the fender. Shimmed the pieces back in, loosened the bolts and slightly adjusted - problem solved. Hope this helps.

Perhaps these pages from the 1960 Chevy truck shop manual will help:

Re: Help. Panel and hood alignment.

in reading all that, and what I did on my suburban, line the doors up, fit the fenders to the doors, then the cowl panels to the fenders and doors, using shims as needed, then the hood lines up to all that.
my suburban was high on the right side of the hood, and I tried all sorts of adjustments to try to get it lower, finally I switched out the hinge and spring, and was able to get it down, it is still not perfect, and I might use the method in 14-41 letter "c" to finish it off.

the part with the red circle, looks pretty close, I am thinking the paint line is more messed up than the body line....

Would you mind posting the pages of the shop manual that have figures 83 and 86. These figures are referenced in item 4 on 14-41 about how to align the hood to the fender using shims on the radiator support. My truck is a 1966, but I can't find anything on hood alignment in the 63-66 manual. I would greatly appreciate it. I am having trouble getting the fenders and cowl to align with the hood.
Thanks
