Drums or Discs on 68 4x4x
Am in a position to possibly swap front end to gain disc brakes, but reluctant to do so. Ive driven the truck since i was 15 and am used to the current brakes. Would rather put money into a lift kit and the t-case.
Also I would miss using the original hubs, etc. What do y'all think? |

I think it's one of the best upgrades you can do and it would come first on my list. Besides better braking you get a much closer turning radius and better parts availability. You can find all different kinds of locking hubs if your wanting something period correct they're still out there.

Re: Drums or Discs on 68 4x4x
When I swapped to disc on the 63, the difference was night and day. Not saying that a properly set up drum won't work great, just saying that with a lift and bigger tires that a front disc axle will probably work a little better. I've been guilty many times of making it faster, bigger and able to do more first and addressing stopping last. I try to address stopping first now as my heart can't take the pucker factor when it won't stop as planned.

Re: Drums or Discs on 68 4x4x
Just go with a 73 and up axle since they have slightly larger axle u-joints. The late 80's axles have slightly larger axles/more splines, not sure of the year cut off though.
