Custom radio delete plate

I couldn't find an original 514 red radio delete plate, so I decide to make one myself. Not exactly like original, but I like this chevy design better. I have less than an hour in it and that includes making the hammer form.

I still need to make the clips to hold it on, but that's easy enough.

I like mine better. Not only is it an Ashtray and Radio delete plate, but it's invisible.

Still looks pretty odd with all that blank space. Are there plans to put something there?

I think your dash pad 3 gauge pod is trick! Did you fabricate yourself? Would love to incorporate something like that on my truck!

Not a fan of it. Or the dash pad gauges or the cluster bezel or the glovebox door. I like these old trucks because of the original old things. Skewing too far away from the original look just isn't my taste. My aftermarket steering wheel bugs my but I needed a smaller wheel so I could be more comfortable in the cab.

Dash Pad is from Just Dashes. Ratchet shifter, radio controls, switches for Running lights, exhaust cut outs, electronic overdrive controls and emergency brake handle are incorporated into the center console.
I did mine this way so it would look different from all of those stock trucks out there, knowing all the while that there would be some who would really criticize it because it didn't look the way they believe a truck should look.

I really don't care about those guys. I built my truck the way I wanted it not the way somebody else likes them.

It's your truck. Build YOUR truck, not someone else's!

Looked hi and low for a original plate in decent condition with no luck so bought this custom ball milled plate and fit very well in my 68.

I couldn't find anything as cool as nicksdiner's. And, I don't have the talent to do what Fitz did.

If I could have found a delete it would have looked like the first pic.

Instead, I found a decent (cosmetic) radio that was fubarred. Cut the back off, slid it in.

I appreciate it, I really like the way it looks. Search E gauge plus radio delete and it will pop up. They even have a matching ashtray insert which looks good.

You say you don't care, yet get defensive when someone offers a differing opinion. Which is it, slick?

It looks good! We all do what we can. It is always better to solve these problems yourself than throw money at someone else to do it for you then hsave to settle for what they thought was "good enough".

Re: Custom radio delete plate

65, Nicely done! My radio was gone when I bought it and the original hole had been hogged out a bit. I've just been living with it cause it's not high on my list. I think rather than going to the shop and machining one I'm gonna try to do something similar.

Good work,
Dan

Re: Custom radio delete plate

I finally got a chance today to make the two mounting clips.

I wanted to make sure it fit. Now I can use that special order can of 514 GM red and paint it.

Re: Custom radio delete plate

I like it. Someone should sell these for those of us who bought trucks with the radio opening cut out for a modern stereo. I will eventually get the patch panel for the stock stereo but until then it would cover the gaping hole in the dash.

I ordered it from automotivetouchup.com

Cost like $20 for a spray can.

Re: Custom radio delete plate

Oh, by the way, I didn't use my special order can of GM 514 red. I used regular Chevrolet orange-red engine enamel. It is a perfect match, cheap and easy to find anywhere.
