Why do i see more Chevy than GMC trucks? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Why do i see so many Chevy trucks at shows and such but hardly any GMC's. Is it harder to find the GMC's or what? someone told me once that it is probably because GMC's were mostly bought by farmers and were driven to death. i myself prefer the grill style of a GMC over a chevy. and when i went looking for a good used tail gate it was harder than @$#% to find one. i have seen a few GMC's at shows but most of them have really basic interior in them. mine has the custom interior and tach dash from the factory plus "AC". i can not remember ever seeing another GMC like mine with "AC". this could be that mine was ordered from the factory with a list of options.
anyway, was the production of the GMC's less or what is the deal. i would like to see more GMC's.
just what i like.

Yeah, I agree that there seem to be more Chevies that GMCs, but I think that more chevies were made than GMCs?????????? (that is the only explanation I can think of) Are you still looking for a GMC tailgate? I have an old one that is in decent condition, and I think I have seen some in the junkyards around here.

I think the general number is about 5 Chevy's were made for each GMC that was made.

Chevys were obviously the better truck. Imho, GMC's were always what guys bought when they couldn't afford the Chevy. It's a brand name thing.

GMC is a workin' man's (or woman's

) truck. The common man needed four headlights 'cause he needed to see what he was workin' on! (mending fences, oil rigs, etc) but chevies being mainly driven by soft-handed city folk only needed two headlights. Now this is just one of a many reasons why GMC rulz, but it's a start. (This is all just my half-joking/tonge-in-cheek opinion)

A GMC is a Chevy. Someone from the Chevy plant was brain storming one day and thought, "how can we make these Chevy trucks look better"? So they re-designed the grill so it would look like a mans truck and put the GMC logos on them (so women who happen to be looking for a date would know that there's a man behind the wheel).

ok-- thats it, you gay man cruisers, don't know what your talking about, that double head light thing was installed on the GMC"S cause they knew nobody would drive them in the day light, it would be all after dark driving LOL

Up until 67, the GMC was a better built truck. They mostly used the same sheet metal, but most of the rest of the parts were built to a higher standard. Engines had higher nickel content, better oil system, and were far better truck engines than the car engines Chevy used. This was why GMC was called the Cadillac of pickups.

The GMC sold for a higher price because of its construction. Most were bought by businesses, where they knew the GMC would last longer. Homeowners and most farmers went with the Chevy, they chose initial cost over longevity.

With the 67 model, GM started started using the same parts and drivetrain components in both the Chevy and GMC. A different grill, nameplate and trim package was about it. It's called badge engineering.

So why are there more Chevys? They sold a lot more of them because they were cheaper.

The only reason GMC's exist is so olds,pontiac, and buick dealers could sell trucks on their lot. They were just a tad higher priced for same truck with a different grill, so most people would not pay the difference and just bought a Chevy.

Ive always thought that the GMC's....from 88 up had a better looking front end...ie grill....but when I bought my 2001 Chev...I could get the Chev dealers to ...'deal' more on them...dunno why....but they did

Back in the 60's...just about every town had a Chevy dealer....but how many GMC dealers did ya see??.....

I've heard the number as closer to 3-1 Chevy's made to GMC's made.....any opinions? (I like my Chevy, but would like to find a nice GMC as a next project.)

If you guys want to know where all the GMC's are, come up to Canada. Lately it seems like all I am seeing is GMC's. Probably a ratio of 5 GMC's for every Chevy I see.

Here's mine. I love it! I'm glad that I don't see as many GMC's. I like the grill much better than the Chevy's too. My truck is a 1972 Super Custom. I was wondering the same thng when I bought mine about a year ago. I did alot of research on these trucks.

Looks like i should have avioded this subject. to me the Chevy and GMC's are the same truck with a different grill. i just happen to prefer the GMC grills. When i look at the grill i see power. That is my opinion. i did not realize there was such a rivalrey between Chevy and GMC people. like i said, basicly it is the same truck with a different grill.
I guess that if the production numbers are lower for GMC's than that would explain why there are more Chevys on the road.
But am i wrong to think that the two trucks are the same truck except the grill? i don't see any differance between everything else about the truck. Oh ya, there is the tail gate.
Well eather way i sorta like haveing a uncommon truck. like i said, i see so many Chevy's but not many of the GMC's. this means no matter what Mods i do to my truck as long as i keep the grill it will be something you don't see many of.
