I am surprised at some 99+ truck prices.

I have been looking around for a couple of trucks to purchase. I have been looking for anything between a 93-02 or maybe a little newer just depending. I have come across several 99+ 2wd and 4wd short bed trucks that are anywhere from $2-4000 above what they book for well even the earlier models too. Those trucks are all stock too. I don't solely go by what they book for but I usually use that as a base point and go from there. Just a little surprised as what I have been seeing.

I mean finding some 2 and 4wd short beds with 150,000-200,000 miles on them and they book around $5000 or so and they are sell anywhere from $8-12,000. I know the short beds are hard to find especially for what I am looking. JMO. Is NADA just that far off? I don't use KBB.

I'm with you. I've been looking for replacement for my Tahoe and can't believe the asking prices. I'm currently in negotiations with a client of mine on a 2004 Sequoia, which I thought I had bought but he went online saw others for almost twice what we are talking about and is trying to get the price up. I told him he can keep it.

You know I am just amazed at what kind of prices these trucks bring, high miles and all. Late model fuel injected engines are lasting a lot longer extending the useable life of the vehicles. The cost of new trucks are high so the used prices are high too.
I used to think the dealers were behind the high used vehicle prices but, really, it's not Barrett/Jackson's fault or Dana Mecum's fault, it's the consumers directly responsible for pricing. As long as the buying public is willing to pay the high prices the dealers will continue to price them high. If we, the buying public, refuse to pay those prices dealers will have no choice but to lower their prices. That goes for anything else too. As long as people are willing to pay the high prices for products the prices will continue to climb for new and used.

Around here the clean 99-06 command good money because the rest of them are rotboxes. These trucks rot out so bad they break in half. My Dad bought a decent condition 2000 Z71 short bed for $5k a few years ago, but I mean it had 99k miles and a plow. So not bad. However after a month we had to replace the front brake lines and after the first winter the rocker panels had some holes. Overall it's in good shape.

I have seen most of these trucks either on autotrader or craigslist. I am not sure where else to look for used trucks. I would like to get a 99-02 regular cab step side (sportside) in the Indigo blue but finding one that is priced decent with decent miles is hard enough let alone adding that color blue. I would probably be interested in a 2wd version of that as well but thinking maybe just trying to find a 90's style step side. Although those years are getting hard to find at a reasonable price too.

I may have found a decent buy. A guy has an 03 Z71 step side/sport side that needs a new trans. Truck had 143,000 and supposed to be rust free with a 6" lift. He said $6000 firm. Truck booked over 9000. Going to try to go look at it this week.

Doesn't really seem like a screaming deal. You have to figure transmission rebuild is going to cost $1500 to 2k or more, depends on prices in your area. My buddy had the 4L60E in his 95 Impala SS rebuilt for $1500, and that included R&R. It was done by a 700R4/4L60E specialist who works out of his home shop and only on referral.

Or you could play the used game, all I have to say is good luck if you do.

Not screaming but a decent deal. Lol. I am figuring 1500 for a rebuild. That would put me at 7500 in it. Not great but better than what I have been seeing. I can R&R myself if I need to save a few bucks.

I was lucky when i purchased my 07 silverado classic. I was able to pick up the silverado 1500hd LT with 60,000 miles and really clean leather interior for 13,000$. I feel like i took a risk on it since i bought if from one of those small roadside dealers that operate for a few months and then go bust. The dealer also listed the truck on craiglist, and the truck and had been sitting there for almost six months. The truck is only 2wd, so i think that is one of the reasons no else wanted to buy it.

I looked at so many other trucks all around my area before i ended up buying my truck and they were all high millage, hard worked with dirty interiors and still 18,000-24,000$. One truck even had a melted dash, i asked the sales guy what the hell happened and he shrugged and just said its a chevy dash I couldn't belive they would sell a truck like that at a dealer and still ask a small fortune for it.

Some sellers don't mind asking ridiculous prices for their stuff. If they wait long enough someone will likely come along and pay it because it is "just what I've been looking for".

Been looking at these trucks for more than awhile = / Finding a crewcab 04-06 Silverado for under 10k that isn't rusting through the corners or fender wells is rare. Ive pretty much given up hope for finding one, and put that money towards a 6.0 swap and getting mine on the road and using it as a driver.

I ended up buying the 03 pictured above for a little under 6000 with 125,000 miles on it. It does need a transmission though. I can get one built for 1000 so I should still be in it fairly decent. It's not perfect by any means but pretty decent.
