If you want a posi why would you put a detroit? You can just install a posi in it. If you are racing a 9" will get rid of c-clips and posi's are a bit cheaper but you'd have to get 5x5 axles or redrill stockers. I wanted a posi so I just ordered one from Summit for my truck.

I agree with Bagd72Chevy.
If you are going more the performance direction. Get a f*rd 9". then you have more gear selection and a little cheaper posi.
If you are staying stock or mild custom, then get a posi unit from Auburn Gear or some other supplier.

You really won't like a detroit locker the first time you take a sharp turn in the rain. The 'cogging' can cause you to spin. An eaton posi carrier will replace your open carrier, accept your axles and ring gear for about $400.00. That way you keep your housing which you already know is good and all you need to do is re-shim the carrier. You won't even need to mess with the pinion. What could be easier?

Re: rearend suggestions

A locker is great for 4x4 but for a street machine I much prefer limited slip. I have an Auburn Gear in both of my truck and really like them. very little hopping and popping in parking lots or tight turns.

Actually I really like the GM corporate limited slip in my 86 3/4 4x4 too.
