Drive train swap 72 Blazer to a 69 short bed
Hey everyone. I have 72 blazer 4x4 with A 350 and a 4 speed with a ton of rust and a 69 short bed on a 71 frame that has no engine but was a 350 with a auto. Is a swap possible to take the drive train over to the short bed and how much of a project would this be? Any help or advice would greatly appreciated. thanks, love you guys on here.
P.S. I am a total noob about almost everything. |

should be straight forward , driveshafts might be different but i think thats about the only issue

Are you trying to make the truck a 4x4? The transmission for a 4x4 is different than a 2wd. It is made to go on the transfer case. If you are asking if the engine alone will swap, then yes-but 72 has different mounts than 67-71. That can be worked out though.

I would like to make it a 4x4 since i already have a complete running 4x4 and a good short bed to put everything in if i can.

Then hope the frame has the holes already punched or figure out exactly where to drill them. You will need a longer rear driveshaft and exhaust pipe/s. Use the front brake lines off the Blazer and the master cylinder/prop valve for the front disc brakes. Here's a pic of a frame with springs attached to get an idea what you have to do with spring mounting. To be 100% honest I don't know for sure that the frames are compatible, I'm assuming. Maybe someone will chime in hopefully that actually knows this. I do believe that the cab mount brackets are different on the K frames opposed to the C frames, and have NO IDEA what the Blazer has on it. I think (assume) that on the C10 that using C10 mounts then the cab will fit on it but no idea why K10 takes different mounts/brackets. You will need a "high hump" in the cab, should be able to remove from Blazer and cut the floor to install on the C10. And I'm SURE there is a lot more than I have listed, hope others will help you. |
