My new totally stock 1972 K5 Blazer 350/Auto 4X4
Ok I joined the club after selling my 1977 FK40 which was great but I wanted something larger. I was thinking I would buy something and modify it to my liking but found a deal on this survivor super clean stock K5 Blazer. I think it needs to remain mostly unmodified and close to stock. I might want a 73-75 project that I can mess around with while I drive this for fun.
I am going to add a stereo that looks stock with speakers that are pretty well hidden away and put wheels and slightly larger taller tires on it and try not to mess with anything further. It was repainted back to the original color then put into storage for 3-5 years then I got it last Monday. Any suggestions on slightly larger tall not too fat tires that wont rub? Opinions on adding a stock roll bar and if it would hurt the collectible value? I need to replace the AC compressor and hoses where to buy? I need the rear side panels in white vinyl found them for $499 OUCH better options? I also need the mounting hardware. Tell me what you think. Take care Thanks PG |

Great looking truck, I wouldn't change a thing!
Member midunes is making hickey roll bars that would look great in there, it's listed in the 'for sale' forum. As far as tires go members have put 31's on their stock hit with no rubbing issues. Good luck with it, it's a beautiful ride. |

Nice rig.Rollbar wont hurt the value, they were an accessory when new that many people purchased. You'll need to put your spare behind the rear seat (where it should be when the rear seat was ordered)to put a rollbar in. I say buy the 499 panels since you have a nice ,original looking rig. I have 31x10.5 bf goodrich tires to go on one of my k5s. Lots of guys run them.

Wow. What a beauty! Welcome and super nice Blazer. Love the color. I am pretty sure my Blazer is stock height and I run 33"x 12.5" tires. No rub, no problems. That might be wider than you want. Just so you know anyways. Super sweet Blazer!

I dont have it yet but am supposed to get the original window sticker also.
That was one reason I didnt know about adding a roll bar. I already removed the spare as I didnt like it there in the window or rubbing on any back seat passengers. I think I do want 33" tall tires and a max of 12.5" wide but I know I would like those. Thanks for the tips. On the side panels where can I get the mounting hardware? I can call the company that has them and see but they didnt show them on their site. Cant think of the site name all of the sudden its on my home computer. Who sells a good roll bar that matches stock? Thanks PG |

Do you need the 6 standoff that go behind the panels? If so ,theyre easy to find on the parts board. Middunes is making the original aftermarket rollbars for the k5s,there was never a factory one that im aware of.

If the 6 standoff is what holds the top of the panel on then yes thats what I need. I can search that name now that I know what it might be called. What do you guys think is the best wheel that keeps a stock or close to stock look? I was thinking about these. Is there a reason to pick 15" or 16"? Seems like 15" tires are less common now. Just wondering opinions. I dont really like the stock painted white wheels with the hub caps personally. You have the original look rims or they had a full wheelcover. Roll bar will not hurt the value and you may need the long trim piece that runs along the entire length of the trim panels....very tough to find a nice one.

The wheels and hub caps are the originals I think I want something else though. Chrome or aluminum brushed or rally wheels. I think I want 16" too
unless it is a bad idea for some reason. I will keep anything I take off so I have all the original parts. PG PS: What is the CST package it came with? |

Nice Blazer.
There is no "stock" roll bar. All roll bars were dealer or aftermarket installed. I don't think installing a roll bar would hurt your value. Make sure you don't have someone sell you a roll bar that wasn't made for a 1st generation Blazer. As far as wheels and tires, the most popular option for wheels seems to be the Chevy rally wheels that were available on the 2nd generation Blazers and other Chevy trucks. I run a set of rally wheels with BFG 33X12.50 tires, and I like the look and the ride. |

If you are selling the hubcaps I might be interested in them. I think the original would have had blue bowties and chrome plated. The yellow ones come on newer blazers and are stainless steel if I am wrong someone will chime in.

That's a gorgeous Blazer. I like that color a lot and the white interior goes very well with it. I like the wheels and tires it has on it, but if we all liked the same things the world would be a boring place!

trickster how about an image of your Blazer? Is it lifted at all? I am thinking about the same tires as you have.
1rippen6 I would sell them only if I found they were incorrect and was able to find the correct set sorry. Any thoughts regardless of style what size wheel is better? Any difference in the way it will ride? I dont think so but wondering. Any way one has a better selection of tires or better prices on tires? Seems to me 15" are a size this is headed out of favor. The size of the sidewall of your tire will affect the ride. But when we are talking 15" vs 16" I don't think anyone would notice. Stick a 33" tire on a 15" rim, and a 28" tire on a 24" rim, and you will probably notice a difference in ride.

on my stock height blazer i fit 32x11.5x15 with a lot of fender clearance, i want to go up to 33's when she gets new shoes

CST stands for Custom Sport Truck. It is the Z84 or "Cheyenne package". It was the top of the line trim level for all Blazers 69-72. It meant wood grain belt molding and tailgate trim, extra undercoating, interior side panels with associated chrome trim, chrome front/rear bumpers, chrome windshield and side vent trim, CST badging on glove box and doors, deluxe side markers, chrome shift levers, console, sport buckets with vinyl scroll (unless 72 Highlander), carpet....probably missing something.

Very nice Blazer! I think most 72 Blazers were cst.
One without a rollbar is probably more rare. I'd hate to take that off road and do anything to where you would need a rollbar. It looks pretty luxurious inside. The spare is in a peculiar spot. Does it not have the original spare mount behind the rear seat? |

Beautiful truck.
I'd probably go with some slightly more aggressive tires, like some BFG All-Terrains, on the stock steelies (I'm a steelies & dog dish fan). For stereos, I have a cd player and 6 disc changer mounted in the center console. I kept the AM/8-track in the dash that was installed by the original owner.

But now I need a set of 15x,9 or 10" Rally wheels with the 6-5.5 bolt pattern. I also need a replacement in dash stock Tach. Thanks PG |
