new distributor
Bought a rebuilt distributor from auto zone for my 250 l6. Cann't get it to clock in on number 1. It goes into the 2 position just fine. Old one goes back in fine. Any suggestions?

Re: new distributor
Try putting a little pressure on the housing pressing down while someone or your button bumps the starter. If that dont work then bring it back to TDC compression and set it to #1. Have someone bump it over while you push down with a little pressure on the housing. The distributor gear has to seat itself in the top of the oil pump.

Re: new distributor
I've never messed with an I6, however if its anything like a sbc or bbc, you can stick a long flat head screw driver down through the distributor hole and rotate the oil pump until it lines up. Again, don't know if they are even remotely the same, but if so, this will work.
