55 second series 3 speed overdrive questions

I am usually on the 67-72 side and have redone a 71 GMC custom swb step and 72 cheyenne swb step. I have a 55 big window that ive owned for 30 yrs (!) that i need to get going again. Back in the eighties my brother installed an overdrive that if i remember correctly came out of a 58/59. Unfortunately the donor truck didnt have any of the wiring or controls. My truck is all original but needs a full restoration. I found a wiring harness from Jim Carter but does anyone have any more info about getting the overdrive working correctly?

Re: 55 second series 3 speed overdrive questions

There are 4 components. Kick down switch, governor, solenoid, and relay. There are wiring diagrams on the web. Use search terms like 55 chevy Borg Warner overdrive. A place called 5th avenue parts garage carries parts an has some know how as well. My 59 has this setup in operating condition.

Here's a factory service manual for the overdrive unit. Should be the same.

These guys are your parts source.
