Help on clutch cross shaft

Does the I6 block bracket point downward like this or upward.

Re: Help on clutch cross shaft

Not sure, but what would it look like if you turned the engine bracket 180 degrees..

Re: Help on clutch cross shaft

If I turn it around, the cross shaft tilts up toward the engine and if I leave the bracket like pictured, the cross shaft points downward toward the engine. It is super close to the exhaust pipe this way.

It looks correct to me, that's how my 292 6 cyl was.if it went the other way, you are cross shaft / z bar would be on an angle and cause bindage

Yeah, that's it.
It does present a problem if the lower clutch rod and pivot hit the headers or exhaust pipe(s) but that's what God made ball pien hammers for. I have ''massaged'' the ears of the inboard Z-Bar for clearance, but if you get too agressive, you'll weaken the weld and it will break [in rush hour traffic, usually], so be careful.

Heh, if its angled down now, why no flip the bracket to angle it up?
Also, the linkage isn't connected and maybe it'll be better once it is.

Re: Help on clutch cross shaft

It may not be originally installed this way, but I flipped the bracket upward and everything aligns much better. The cross shaft is level with the ball ends and square with the linkage rods now. It operates very smooth like this and clears the exhaust pipe better.

Re: Help on clutch cross shaft

Here's mine:
I tried it with the engine-side bracket pointing up, but my geometry was wrong. Very tight fit with Clifford long tube headers.
