Re: This truck is crying inside
It's sad for sure. Good thing is it will probably sell and will not take much to improve on it's current state. Pretty solid old truck.
Wouldn't that be the catz azz for high school kids first truck? Dad can teach him right off the bat to "Never, Ever, do something like this to a good old truck". I would say they could even sell the bed to some ferd guy cept all the old ferds are dead and gone and melted down by now

Re: This truck is crying inside
The price is right, but that truck needs so much stuff...... I would pass and look for one with fewer dents, dings, rust spots, holes and missing parts.

Re: This truck is crying inside
I bet that's the happiest Ford bed out there. Take that bed off and they could raise the price. That beat Chevy bed would do wonders for the truck's look.

It's a shame I tell ya just what some people will do to a good ol truck. Look what I ran across in a local salvage yard. No respect at all...

Re: This truck is crying inside
When I moved into this house my next door neighbor had the best running '79 Ford F150 I have ever seen. It had a Chevy 350 in it, and this was 1986!

Re: This truck is crying inside
I can't bash a ford engine, my mastercraft has a 351 cleveland in it and it has not had a single hickup, only have to do preventive maintainance. My 6.0 in my silverado, I can't say the same thing for. Also the 351 in my grandpas detomaso pantera is running flawlessly since 1972. I just think chevys look alot better and function just as good.

Re: This truck is crying inside
Which 351? There were three. And, that right there alone is what makes Chevy better, IMO. Too much confusion with parts. GMs were always best for keeping going without confusion over parts. I captained a Shamrock cuddy cabin with a 351, it ran hot chronically while the crabbers ran junkyard 350s everyday with no issues. I admit it was a lot of boat and heavy (28'/5200#), but so is a Bay-built with loaded pots. We like what we like, I guess. That neighbor came from a Ford family. He had a machine shop and I'm guessing he just had the motor and put it in. The truck was clean, not sure why the original motor lasted such a short time.

Re: This truck is crying inside
I believe the one in the pantera is a cleveland as well, they originally had windsors but when he restored it he out a cleveland in becuae of the overheating problem. I have never had my boat overheat, and it weighs just north of 4000# and will do over 80! It screams! So does the pantera though, to fast for 5th gear! Lol

Re: This truck is crying inside
Nothing wrong with Ford engines, but the 70s sheetmetal had a tendency to evaporate.
How often does the Pantera get driven, or how many miles on it? Not bashing Ford, I suspect it has no miles. Not too bad a truck but the grill and bed need swapped. The field bed might last a while with some effort. Scrape the oval off the fender |
