Jack stand points for removing rear axel

So I am removing my rear axel to rebuild my 43 year old axle. I was under there yesterday trying to place my jack stands and couldn't find a good place to put them that would still allow me to take my axle off. I have four jack stands but none of them reach the frame. How best to stage these, but still allow me to remove the axle.

Thanks,

Wes

Re: Jack stand points for removing rear axel

I'd get some bigger jackstands to reach the frame.

x2. I always keep small for under axle and large for under frame on taller trucks. I place stands under frame in front of leaf spring mounts or same area on coil spring trucks

Re: Jack stand points for removing rear axel

I have three sets that I use. My largest are rated for 3 tons plus, these are tall ones for putting under the frame, just forward of the axle. I always put a floor jack under the center section to lower the axle. This method works good for me. If you can't get the height block the stands up with good 2x6 blocks. Always have a helper there too.
