Bad idea, but post your worst losses ever in truck

Well, some of you may know that I keep racing my friend, and losing, in his New Yorker. Well, it actually gets worse from there. One night two weeks ago, I was out with a couple of friends. One of them drove a 4-door Cavalier, early 90's I thnk. Well, we both roll up to a stop sign, and I hit it hard enough to hear the exhaust from inside the car-about 1/2 throttle or so. A second or two later, I realize the girl in the Cavalier is trying to fly by me. I give it WOT at about 20 mph, but as soon as it hits third -at 45 mph- I realize it's a lost cause because I see little else but rusted-out Cavalier rear end and taillights. This is awful, awful news to me, and all the while I hope that this car has at least six cylinders. I need help, and fast! At least entertain me and the other masses with your worst loss. I'm sure it will make me feel better.

Umm, my father's Blazer can accelerate faster than my truck can, and it is a V6.... It can spin its tires if you hold the brake and gas it up, whereas my truck cannot even spin it's tires on gravel after holding in the brake =P

Yes, I do have a V8 -- A 350 mated with a TH400, and .73 gear ratio out back...

sounds to me like you've got one sick piece of machinery there. ever think about a tune up? setting the timing, and tuning t he carb? are you sure you have 3.73 gears, or are you just going by what someone told you? my 86, with 2.73 gears isnt even that slow.

Well, the story's like this. The truck came originally with a 305/TH350/2.73 combination. My dad wanted overdrive in the truck, so he put in a 700R4. Soon after that he noticed that it didn't want to go into OD with this setup, so he traded COMPLETE AXLES with someone who had 3.73 gears, or so the story goes. FaastC10, I have thought hard about a tuneup, but putting close to 60 miles/day with 10 mpg is sucking up all my money. I had my carb rebuilt not too long ago, but could never get it tuned quite right. Oh well, live, learn, and "someday" get a twin-turbo AWD V8 S-10 to show them all up. More worst deaths would be great, please!!

Oh yeah forgot the timing. I have a Pertronix Flamethrower dist, but I don't think the mech. advance is working at all. I hook up the light, rev it up, and the mark never moves. I have had to replace the coil and module since I got it, though.

Dunno if you are talking about me or not...

My truck is a stock 5.7 litre 350 V8 with a stock TH400. I know that it has 2.73 gears, and needs one heck of a serious tuneup, probally new plugs, new distributer, carb tuneup, timing, everything needs work... I know for a fact that the truck has never had any tuning, minus new spark plugs twice in it's life, so it is in dire need...

I dunno how to do the carb tune, or the timing tune, but I am planning on a new distributer, and new spark plugs as soon as possible as the increase in gas milage and performance would be well worth the money...

drop in a 350, drop all the weight you can, by going with aluminum and fiberglass products, and tossing what you can live with out, that sucks HP.

If you could get to within 500lbs weight of the Cavalier you could smoke the lil ba$tard

Remember if you put the same weight on a drag car as your truck, they would have a hard time beating a Cavalier.

Did this help cheer you up ?

wouldnt go into OD with thgat setup? all it takes is the proper governor pressure, and the proper TV pressure. he could've adjusted the TV cable and it would've been fine.

10mpg with a 700R4 is hideous. i used to knock down around 10 with my 82 (355 with a pretty healthy cam/TH350 with a nasty shift kit, stall converter, and 3.08 gears) find the cash to do a tuneup, you wont be sorry.

how about being in a supercharged mustang and loseing to a civic hatch. lol. thats what happened a few days ago to us. my friend has a 03 cobra which i personaly saw dyno 390+ hp at the wheels. we were out at the local hang out spot on wed nights checkin out all the cars and this guy with the civic is lookin for a race so he checks out another guy i knows turboed type R integra which is fast as hell. it beat us when i was in a wrx with a ton of mods. so we were just gonna follow the civic and the integra and see what happened on the highway. some how or another we ended up next to the civic on the highway, we went from about a 60 punch and and took off past the civic which is making some weird ass nosies whilst the turbo is spooling up, once that thing spooled the little car came flying by us like we were standing still. it was redicoulusly fast. when we pulled up back at the hang out spot we talk to the guy and end up finding out that this little 4 banger put down 550 hp to the wheels on the dyno and he had the video in his camera to prove it along with some other videos of him spanking HEAVILY modded supras on the highway. needless to say my friedn was a little disappointed that his new sc'd 03 cobra lost its first race to a civic it will be getting a little help from kenne bell int eh next couple months though

GO HONDA!! WOO HOO!!!!!

My worst loss in my 78 was to a supercharged 10sec 1/4mile monte SS, but I knew I had it coming. I just wanted to see him take off

Your problem is the 305, those things don't have power.

Sorry Ryan...Im callin BS on pulling HEAVILY modded Supras on the Highway...That **** just doesent happen. In fact I have not seen it happen yet...Not even against Hennesey's Twin Turbo N20 Viper. I saw him get rolled up by 2 supras in Houston street races we were in. Ask around seriously...they may have been BPU maybe BPU + but not heavily modded like he is... He would have been cake walked!! haha

The truck has teh 330hp GM H.O. Deluxe.
The car dynoed weak ass...only 298rwhp. But it will stroke the truck.
Although..the truck held its own against the car. Had my old man driving the T/A and I held with it 1st and 2nd and half way through 3rd. then only had about a car on me.

Yeah, but how much money do you have in the trcuk compared to what you have in the car? Dollar to dollar you can't go wrong with the LS1 powered F body.

Oh hell yeah...I love the T/A too. I was really surprised at the result. Of course Had I been driving the T/A the result would have been much more biased. But its hard to drive them both like they needto be driven at the same time!! lol

i dosen't really matter if anyone believes it, its not my civic so i'm not bragging, lol. but i did see the video in person on his camera of him eating an over 600hp supra on the highway like it was standing still, just like he ate us in the 03 cobra. a civic hatch is alot lighter supra, so stick a 550hp motor in a hatch and your not screing around, but this car was specifically built for highway racing, it would take him forever to spool up off the line. i know you love supras and stuff, but we've also spanked some healty ones in my friends 3rd gen rx7. i did see a single turbo supra that was also spraying spank a z06 with a 250 shot on the highway last year, that thing was bad!!!!!!

Well, I hate to admit it, but I lost to an early 80's Toyota pickup with a 4 cyl/5 speed. Back then though, my 68 had a tired 350 (mismatched rods, dished lifters, bad bearings). At about 105 or so, the little toyota walked away from me I'd like to see him try it now that I have my 406

I sold my 2000 ford lightning before I bought my 76 k10.

It took some time to get used to not to rev at every light.

Couple of times I would forget and think I can take this guy and they I would punch it and remember very quickly I was in the 4x4.

Would not trade back tho love the 76.

And I could take any lightning in about 2 inches of snow. LOL

Well im @ a red light & a black 3rd gen RX7 roll's up next to me in the lf. lane and he's reving it and the light turns green and we get it on! I took this guy off the line untill about 300' by then his twin turbo's are spooled and i was toast

But i knew when we took off that i didn't have a chance once the turbo's kicked in.

I just wanted to see how i was going to do against him.

That was about '93 or so or when ever the 3rd gen came out cuz his car was brand new.

I also took on a guy in a brand new Cyclone and we were head to head untill 3rd gear and then he put a whoopin' on my a$$.

But it's Okay at least it was a chevy truck allright, a GMC.

i got beat by a subaru 2.5 gt. my friend and i were heading over to a girls house and we thought we might have some fun on the way. he pulls up to me at the light and revs up. i powerbrake and the light drops. i never had a chance with his awd. he pulls away from me with every gear. BUT i did have about 500 pounds of tree stumps and dirt in the bed plus my girlfriend.
there was a 2nd race after i couldnt take the crap he was giving me that night. the next day 600 pounds lighter, we line up again. the light drops and were off. he pulls untill his first gear it up then he's toast. i pull hard through first and second then shut it down. that made me feel a lot better!!!
