1966 C-10 Stepside Build/Upgrades
Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the site, but I'm here to share my changes to my Orange Beast Hot Rod... I had it as a street/strip truck... More on the track than the street. It has a 468 BB, 400 turbo trans, semi-automatic with a 3500 stall, reverse pattern shift and transbrake. I upgraded the front with CPP disc brake conversion kit which up graded all the ball joints to 73-87 type ball joints and 2.5 drop spindles with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. In the back, I narrowed the rearend 5" over all to tuck in the 15x10 centerlines with a 5" back spacing. I also put moser axles 5 on 5 pattern with a 4.10 gear and a spool. Ilowered the rear with CPP 4" drop springs and 1.5" drop blocks.
My goal now is to put it on the street 100%. So, I will be adding some new wheels, Intro Rally 20" x 12" with an 8" lip in the rear and 20" x 8.5" in the front. Lowering the truck another inch or so all the way around, depending on the stance after the new wheels are mounted. Adding a C- notch to the frame. Changing Fuel cells for more fuel capacity. Higher gear ratio for the rear end to a 3.73 posi. and etc....... All the little things tha my come. Which I'm sure they will.. Add a bench seat instead of the racing seats that I currently have in it. Put in a new wood bed kit because I currently have a sheet of plywood in it.. And much more with time... Somewhat show quality but driven every weekend.. Last edited by Nacho_Paras N.L.; 03-31-2015 at 09:19 AM. |

Re: 1966 C-10 Stepside Build/Upgrades
Thanks, I'll take a couple of pictures of the engine this evening... I've never been to fond to show my engine compartment since no work was ever done to make it nice. Although the motor was built strong, the outside was not built for presentation if you no what I mean. If I recall correctly, we made room to fit the Big Block by hammering the fire a bit... So you can already imagine what it might look like.
All that will be different now. I'm hoping to redo the firewall and push it back and make room the right way. |

I also went to a hydraulic clutch as I really like a manual trans, but surprisingly those issues were resolved fairly easy. Keep up the progress and lots more pics!!

Re: 1966 C-10 Stepside Build/Upgrades
So I ordered the Intro Rally Wheels in January and I finally got them in Yesterday. Here's a couple of pictures of the rear rims.. 20" x 12" with an 8" lip.. I should be getting the tires in Friday... I went with 29" x 15" R20 Mickey Thompson Sportsman for the rear and 255/35 R20 Mickey Thompson Street Comp in the front.

Re: 1966 C-10 Stepside Build/Upgrades
Got my tires in yesterday evening.... I hope to get them mounted tomorrow morning... First thing my son did..... Got in the tire... I think that's all I'll have time for... Got to work on the "honey do list" this weekend.. I Have a baby on the way and the wife wants the babies room painted and the guest room painted. No complaints here since I see more $$$ going to the truck...lol

Re: 1966 C-10 Stepside Build/Upgrades
And I was to scratch off some items on the list from the wife... Bedroom painted and crib assembled. What is it with the chevron pattern these days. It was a headache to outline and tape... Guest room also painted... Busy weekend...

Re: 1966 C-10 Stepside Build/Upgrades
I was able to find some time and went ahead a put the front wheel on. I jacked the rear up and put the truck on some jackstands to test fit the the rear wheels to see how much I would need to narrow.
Then, I took off the rear end and took it to Pyle Bros. out in Baytown, TX. Having to narrow it 2.750" off of each side leaving it 53.500" on over all legnth. Going with a 3.73 gear positrack. Since I had already got it narrowed ons before, I already had moser axles in it, so they'ss just send my axles and get them resplined. Save a little bit of $$ there.. |

Re: 1966 C-10 Stepside Build/Upgrades
I went ahead and ordered CPP c-notch kit, CPP rear shock relocator, CPP 5" drop Springs for the rear and 3" drop springs with CPP 3" drop shocks for the front.
I ordered new bushings for the trailing arms and trac bar from Energy Suspension. I should be getting everything in by the end of the week..... Hopefully... Pyle Bros. told me they'll be taking about 2 weeks for the rearend, so that will give me some time to work on the suspesion while I wait... |
