My Sierra Grande has the original aluminum sliding back glass. Seal appears to be good. The problem - it takes terrific force to slide the two pieces of glass in their channels. I can't see anything obvious that would cause this. Ideas?

Maybe an old dryed out window molding or crap in the slide channels?

Mine get the same way. The channel fuzzy gets worn and hard. I suppose some build-up on the aluminum along with grit in channel. I've never replaced the channel guide material. Some sort of lube, not oil but something that will soften and moisten the rubber would help. You might could spread the channel a skosh, but be careful so you don't end up with a rattling window. Mine got so tight the channel guide pulled out and it rattled something fierce. I still have it, but I pulled it and replace the whole deal with a better one I had

Try some silicone spray. Made mine slide much better.

Yes I spray mine with silcon spray every summer. I spray the window channels to to help them go up and down.

I was just ready to post a question about the top trim level 1972 GMC when I saw your post. I was driving the other day and saw a pickup identical to mine, except it was a GMC, not a Chevy. Same color, same seat vinyl, same options, same rear slider window. So it, and yours is a Sierra Grande compared to my Cheyenne.

My slider hardly moved too. I sprayed the tracks with silicone spray, and worked it back and forth, then sprayed a little more. After a little bit, it now slides pretty well. I had looked into replacing the rubber in the channels, but at that time, I couldn't find anyone who made the right stuff. But mine works fine now, as is.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll give the silicone spray a try. I don't want to go with a replacement window because I like the bright finish on the original.

I've driven this truck for a few weeks. While it needs some electrical TLC due to some "handyman work" (lots of Scotchlock connectors), it drives great. The power of that 402 with a big fat Edelbrock on it is amazing.

I was going to suggest silicone as well. These windows are fairly easy to take apart -- just a couple screws if I remember correctly -- and you can replace the felt in the channel.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
