Show me your 255/70x15 tires

I just picked up a set of 15x8 rally wheels, and now it's time to buy tires. In the past I've run BFG Radial T/As, but at $146/each at Discount Tire, they're getting very expensive. So I want to see what you're running and how well you like them. Again, size is 255/70x15.

TireRack.com likes this General Grabber HTS, and it's a much more modern design than the BFG. I don't know what size is actually pictured here.

There is just something about the looks of the BFG's on these trucks, made for them but, yeah, cost of these have skyrocketed.

I've been eyeing the Grabber too. I like the price, and I like that it is a little more of a truck tire than the TA. They appear to come in good sizes for big 'n littles too.

Also, I expect they work better in the rain than the older design tires. Another nice thing is General Tire has a $70 rebate when you buy 4 Grabber tires by April 30.

BTW, I think I'll have them mounted white letters on the inside. The big letters are bit too much.

Whoa thanks for the heads up on the rebate, that might push me far enough ti get some!

I agree on the white letters in, I like them but I think in a big thick tire they don't look right.

I see the Grabber HTS comes in 265/70 also, anybody running that size? Maybe just on the rear?

Not that much, since the truck is not my primary ride. However, I've always driven my old cars and trucks rain or shine (and sometimes even snow). My 69 2WD C10 was my daily driver for nearly 2 years, including one winter in Colorado.

I'm looking at the upside to buying a modern $111 alternative to the $146 Radial T/A. It's also a protest against BFG for trying to take advantage of guys who have always used the Radial T/A as the default 60-and 70-series tires for older rides. Hey BFG, there are alternatives.

Re: Show me your 255/70x15 tires

What kept me with BFG's is the manufacture of origin...Most tires are offshore made now and it seems that tires made in the US are more expensive. I personally had a couple of inexpensive/offshore tires fail so I'm Leary of their quality control. I narrow down the tires I want buy going to TireRack .com and searching their website for US made brands and then go from there, Sadly there isn't many choices anymore.

I'm running a 15x7" rim with a 225/65/15 BFG G force tire...The g-force series doesn't offer that size anymore. The advantage was a stiff sidewall that aids in the handling. I had those left over from a Camaro project.

Re: Show me your 255/70x15 tires

I'm running BFGs in this size on my '87 and love them. Initially I ordered the Cooper Cobras because of the $150 price tag on the BFGs at Discount Tire. Two days after ordering them, I get a call from the store telling me that it was going to be a little while to get the Coopers in so instead of having me wait, they sold me the BFGs at the price of the Coopers. I was told the store had the tires sitting for over 6 months so instead of the tires sitting there longer, they would rather sell them at the discounted price. Got very lucky and purchased each of them at $80 a piece.

What a deal! There must be a huuuge markup in those BFG tires, unless the store actually took a loss.

BTW, the General Grabber tires are made in the US.

Re: Show me your 255/70x15 tires

Ended up buying a set of Cooper Cobra 255/70x15 tires. They look better in person than in pictures. Got a great deal at my local Discount Tire, including 6 months with no interest (nice for us retired guys) and a $30 pre-paid Visa card. The salesman/installer even mounted and balanced one of my old tires on a not-so-perfect 8" wheel for use as a spare. And he wouldn't let me pay him for the work!

Will post pictures later.

Here you go. Cooper Cobra 255/70x15 tires on 8" wheels. I used the narrow trim rings instead of the wider ones.
