Which rear view mirror?

I have a 72 and if I'm correct the earlier models used a mirror mounted on the window frame. I currently do not have a mirror mounted (its been on my to do list).

Which mirror do you guys prefer? I've always liked them mounted on the frame and not on the glass. Would it be a big deal to mount an early style mirror on my 72? Mine already has holes that I believe would line up.

Thanks.

Re: Which rear view mirror?

I have a 72 blazer. It has the mirror on the frame. I have often wondered if it maybe came from the factory that way or whether the original owner swapped it. The truck wasn't really messed with so I question if the original owner would have done that.
Any chance this would have been a running change and some 72's left the factory with them on the frame?

Re: Which rear view mirror?

My preference is the 68, more adjustability. I couldn t keep the stock mirror on it, kept fallin' off, after several failed attempts with reglue, I gave up and put the 68 on it

If you want a 67 I may have one laying around, just tell me you want it

Re: Which rear view mirror?

The glue-on mirror adhesive you buy at the auto parts store is pretty worthless. You have to have a glass guy mount it for you, because they have access to a Loctite product that will really hold it.

I don't see any reason you couldn't mount a 71 or earlier mirror. My preference is for a newer mirror, since I like the map lights and they're not hard to wire in.

Re: Which rear view mirror?

I had a 72 K10 that made use of a 71 mirror with color coded mount...it was done by a PO and didn't look bad. I'd have stuck with a 72 mirror but didn't bother to change it.

Re: Which rear view mirror?

Well, I'm really tempted to find an older style one. I personally don't like gluing it to my windshield. Can't change it later and could be difficult to remove later.

Ok, that was my mistake, thank you. Soooo, how do I remove that blob of glue that is now on my windshield?

Re: Which rear view mirror?

Update...

I picked up a mirror at the swap meet last weekend. Paid $1 for it. Cleaned it up and repainted the cover (someone painted it black over the original red). Unfortunately, the holes I thought were for the mirror weren't, so I drilled some new ones and mounted it. Here is the finished product

Re: Which rear view mirror?

Don't feel too bad. I just happened to find one when I was looking! I promise it doesn't happen often. Also, when I got it home I spend about 2 hours cleaning, polishing it, and painting it.
