problem after drop spindel install.

So I just go around to putting a set of drop spindels on my 80 c20. I've done drop spindels on 4 s10s a isuzu 2 dakotas and a nissan hardbody. Every one I put on I was able to drive to get an alignment when I got the time. This truck the front end is pulling so bad it's crazy. Tires look to be going out like the left is turning left and right is turning right with the steering wheel strait. It also now has slight positive camber. I know your suposed to get an alignment after any suspention mods but I drove it around the block and literally could see the wear on the tires. They were almost to hot to touch on the inside edge. Anyone else ever experienced this? I'm really hoping that an alignment will fix it but I may have to tow it there.

I've never had one that bad.You might want to try to measure/set/adjust the toe-in. That usually is the worst for wear on the tires. The ones I've done (all C-10s) I put the shims back in the way I took them out and they were close enough to drive to the shop.

Is it possible to get them on the wrong side?

What brand are your spindles?

BellTech spindles on my Nissan Hardbody had to have 1/4" chopped off the tie rod threads so the thing could actually ~be~ aligned. Said so right in the instructions.

BellTech spindles on my C10 were not a problem at all. Well, other than clearancing to fit 15's.

Re: problem after drop spindel install.

The spindles I'm told were chassis tech but they actually look good as far as casting and machining. I checked them against my old ones and they don't look bent or anything I'm guessing that maybe they have the tie rod mounts out further than stock.

I have seen at least one set of dropped spindles (on a 55 Chevy car) that required several turns of the toe-in adjuster sleeves to get the toe-in back to where it should be.

Google "DIY toe-in" or "Set toe-in at home" and you get lots of hits on how to get it close without a gauge.

Re: problem after drop spindel install.

On C20/30's, drop spindles change the position of the outer tie-rod from what I remember because the steering arm changes (moves the seating position from bottom to top). This will have a greater impact on alignment vs the other models you previously had experience with.

A simple adjustment of the toe is what you need. Use a tape measure from a common groove in the tire tread on both front side & rear side of the tires. Adjust the toe until it's about even. That will get you to the alignment shop.

Re: problem after drop spindel install.

Thanks ill look it up and try to get them at least close before I drive it to the shop. I'm going to take a loop off the front coil since I have to get it aligned anyway just to get it sitting a bit lower.

Re: problem after drop spindel install.

Will do spent today putting drop shackles and hangers on the rear now I just need to find a place to find new u bolts. And I should note my truck is a 80 c20 but has factory one ton suspension. Probably because it's a camper special. And a tip for removing the hanger rivets. Use a plasma cutter! Much easier than last time I did it with a grinder lol.
