Question about TH350 in 72 C-10 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am restoring a 72 C-10 short wheelbase stepside that I purchased without a engine or transmission. The SPID states the truck was orig. built with a TH-350 automatic & 350 smallblock. Was the trans in shortbeds the shortail or longtail version of the TH-350 in original trucks. Also, would like to know if either could be used with diff. length driveshafts, made to fit. The rear is a 12bolt (non-posi) if that makes a difference.

If i'm not mistaken the t350 has a 9 inch tail housing in the short wheel base application with the one piece driveshaft and 2wd.

Thanks for your reply Boog....I know a later model trans can also be made to work, but I like the availabilty of the Th-350....simple and not too expensive to have rebuilt.
Anyone in the North Jersey area have a trans shop recomendation along with approx. cost for a stock bench rebuild ??

Not in your area, I'm Indianapolis In area but my 350 is getting overhauled right now and estimate is $450/500 with new converter. This might give you some idea of cost.

I'm in SW Conn and just had mine done privately for $700. The two shops I called were 1000-1100$$

Thanks for your replies guys. I am going to call around for some local estimates. About 15 years ago I had a th-350 from a camaro done (bench job) for $350 with a new converter, so around $500 seems like quite a good price in 2015.

$675 out here in AZ.
