79 and 81 frame differences ???
I have an 81 C10 short box project and I found a 79 frame for cheap in great condition.......... are they the same frame? Would I run into problems trying to put all the 81 stuff onto the 79 frame? I don't want any extra work. Thanks in advance.

Re: 79 and 81 frame differences ???
One difference that I know of is the front frame horns where the bumper mounts. There may be more but that's all that I'm aware of.

Re: 79 and 81 frame differences ???
Auto trans cross member is different. Fitting a 73-79 cross member on an 80-87 frame requires spreading the frame a bit and drilling an extra mounting hole. Only really necessary if you want your dual exhaust plumbing to be routed a little cleaner.
In your, case it would be easiest to just get the correct year cross member.

The 79 frame uses different cab bushings. You might have to oblong a hole for the rear sport bumper. You will need to cut off the frame horns for the front bumper brackets.
