IN LINERS ASSEMBLE! 292/250\230 brain picking time!

Need to see mechanical throttle linkage setups for a 292 preferably that's running and offey 4 barrel intake and edlbrock 600 carb.(That's you tj) cable linkage is okay but I really would like to stick with mechanical. Also anyone know what this implies? I get its a power pak. but is that the company's way of saying "heavy duty" because the 292 was the bigger motor of the 3. Any helps appreciated.

Here is an old build I did in the early 90's, I think you can get the linkages from Clifford now days for a 4 barrel.
I was in October 1993 Street Rodder magazine with this one

I'd switch to cable. But since you'd prefer mechanical linkage I'll do my best to explain since I don't have it. lol On that 4 barrel there's two holes on the accelerator lever. The top hole is quite large and the one under neath is smaller. Use the one Underneath. Your stock throttle shaft that goes from the pedal to the carb should hook right up. Slide it in the lower hole and see how far your pedal sticks out...if its out to far then lengthen your throttle shaft to bring it down. I'll make a video explaining it for you. Stay tuned...I should have it up by this evening.

Re: IN LINERS ASSEMBLE! 292/250\230 brain picking time!

Yea the carb mounts sideways:/ you can see in the pics where the linkage is at on the carb... Oh well any ideas would be awesome I might use cable. But last one I used was on a 51 gmc and it was HORRIBLE. So unless I can find a cable setup that is cheap ish and works as smooth as mechanical linkage I am so open ears.

Re: IN LINERS ASSEMBLE! 292/250\230 brain picking time!

I used Lokar...though not to Cheap per say...the system works wonderfully. Easy to install and is great quality. I'd do a cable setup, you'll be alot happier instead of growling and groaning trying to figure out a mechanical linkage. Engine looks killer dude!

Re: IN LINERS ASSEMBLE! 292/250\230 brain picking time!

Here's the Lokar part numbers:
Throttle Pedal: BAG-6149
Throttle cable: TC-1000U
Carb Mount: SRK-4000

These are all the fancy brushed aluminum parts. You can go to Lokar.com to see them. If you have an Autozone or Baxter in your area I'd get the parts from them. Oh yeah...you'll need a spacer for the throttle pedal. If you have a 1/4 or 1/2 inch thick piece of metal, cut it into a square and drill two holes and yer good. The pedal has threaded holes.

Re: IN LINERS ASSEMBLE! 292/250\230 brain picking time!

Thanks tj. I'll look into it. I just remember when I last drove the cable linkage I could feel the cable drag in the guide tube and it was horrible. Maybe it was a cheap one but I'll look into it. As for the motor I'm now looking for an aluminum thermostat housing and goose neck. Along with a high torque 292 decal for the valve cover. At least until I find a 235 cover so I can put on my new head I'm building with roller rockers .

My cable drags a little and its because I don't have it perfectly centered. And I prefer cable drag because it makes the pedal harder which means I can rest my foot. lol I bought an aluminum thermo housing(see picture) off of ebay from MrHotRod6. Nice guy known him for years. The high torque 292 decal can be bought off ebay as well. Your doing lumps in the new head right? I did comp 1.75 rollers on my 292...best to go with are their Ultra-Pro Magnum series which you can get from T Lowe at 12bolt.com for fairly cheap. 235 valve cover will require and adapter from MrHotRod6 as well. Picture of All the aluminum on my 292. lol

Re: IN LINERS ASSEMBLE! 292/250\230 brain picking time!

You could probably find one cheaper than this but make it work with your stock pedal linkage. Thats a tough one being sideways and all:

Thanks rocknrod. I might be able to just machine something like that. Looks simple enough. Buuuut buying it may be way easier.

WOW thanks tj! That made my life so much simpler my linkage is closer to the fire wall. But I think I know how I am going to fix it up. I'll use cable but I may just have to make my own custom Mount. Thanks for taking the time to do that

If you turn your carb around so the primaries are closer to the valve cover it'll be easier to set up a cable or your old rod linkage. The way you have it now the cable needs to bend over the valve cover. And your stock choke cable will reach too!

Matt, Geezer just brought up a great point...turn your carb with the primaries toward the valve cover instead of away from the valve cover. That's how I was imagining your carb in my video. I didn't noticed your carb was the other way. lol That'll make hooking up linkage a whole lot easier in itself.

I can see what you and geezer mean. I was so excited to just see the motor all together I just tossed the carb on. that "drag" your talking about with your peddle is what I dislike about cable. Plus I wanted to keep the original pedal in the pick up. I will go and pick up various linkage parts from the junk yard and see what I can put together. I may be able to figure somthing out.. or maybe just give in and compromise with Cable.
