Bed cover
Has anyone built their own bed cover & if so, do you have any pics? I 've searched and only find tonneau covers & I don't want to have to drill holes in the bed for those. I can probably make my own for far less then a custom one.

Re: Bed cover
I built a custom cover for a Datsun truck back in the day, dont have any pics of it. But I started with a used fiberglass cover that over-covered the bed. any model doesnt matter they are all flat typically and have rounded edges for the width and the length.
I squared it off and then drew a "finish edge line" from underneath. I then made my cut line about 2" back from that and cut it down on 3 edges. Then I took the edges and cut them down to the overall finish size. Then I glassed them back onto the 'cover area' and it worked out nice. New paint and weatherstrip and gas shock hinges and it was good to go.

Re: Bed cover
There was a thread where a guy got a garage sale one from a newer truck and narrowed it to fit, I looked but could not find it. If you use the search box above with "bed cover" as the topic, lots of threads show up. 60-66 beds are similar size to 55-59 so basic design would work. Wood or aluminum frame, hinges, struts and locking mech would needed. Could be metal, fiberglass, or tonneau fabric finish. I will probably be making one too later on.

Re: Bed cover
I've been wanting one from Gaylords http://www.gaylordslids.com/ for years and then cover it with either vinyl or convertible top fabric to have it look like a regular sewn cover to those who aren't paying attention.

Re: Bed cover
Check the next to last page on my build site. I cut down a smooth top fiberglass cover with pretty good success I think. Just need to finish the back. Hope this helps. tbrown

Re: Bed cover
I have a soft 'fake' vinyl cover that is like a boat cover. It snaps on all the way around. Of course the snaps need to be riveted on, so you do need to put holes in the rails all the way around. If you're interested, I can snap some pictures of it. I like it as it's a nice tight fit and it looks slick. I am actually going to be making a new cover soon and will maybe put a large chevy emblem on it in the middle.

Re: Bed cover
I have one like Mark'87930 described as well. I had a boat cover/upholstery guy make it. I would have had him do it in Velcro instead of the snaps if my truck hadn't already had the snaps installed.
Another way would be to make a completely flat cover and install a lip just below the top of the bed rails. It could fit flush, hinged at the front with locking or latch points at the rear of the lips.

Re: Bed cover
I think Xpickup built one for an AD in his C4 build thread.
