old brakes, need upgrade

I have a 68 c10 with old brake set up. drum/drum, no booster. im wanting to upgrade the brakes... disc/drum w/booster. my question is this... what do I look for in a MC/booster set up for drum/drum brakes ? I see a lot of setups with proportioning valves for disc/drum or disc/disc set ups. do I use one of these set ups and not use the proportioning valve ? I just don't have the cash for the front disc conversion right now and was wondering if I could go ahead and get the MC/booster put on to help with braking until I do have the money for the full conversion. thx ahead of time for any info.

First thing you can do is simply rebuild your brakes. Bring things up to factory spec with good shoes that match the arc of the drums.

Add a power booster to your existing M/C if it is in good condition. This was offered as a dealer installed option.

If you want disc brakes you can backfit factory parts.

If you do install front disc I suggest using the 71up steering linkage as well and not adapt the lighter parts.

The drum/drum power brakes used a distribution valve instead of a proportioning valve. I added a booster to my existing '67 drum brake setup and didn't even have to disconnect my brake lines. Make sure you get the rods with the booster They may be different.

i put a booster from a 72 on my old 67 and ran drums for years. all you have to do is add the booster and put the longer rod to the brake pedal.

Depending on the condition of your brake lines they may break when you install the booster. They have to be rebent because the booster and bracket make the master cylinder move about 10" further from the firewall.
