1972 GMC Longbed
Hi Guys,
I just bought this 1972 GMC, I'm want to repaint and remove the rust, how much should it cost to do that? ( Please reccomend a garage near Washington DC if you know) Where can i find the step side bed for this body? Ganem |

Long bed step sides will be hard to come by. leave it a fleetside... Looks way better. But I have a '72 GMC Long bed fleetside myself.
 Cutting rust out is labor intensive, so it ain't gonna be cheap paying shop rates + parts and material. Gary

So somebody painted over the rust spots? Bad mojo for that body guy, I would think. My body prices where My shop is wouldn't pay to even turn on the lights in other places so I'm no help in that regard.Welcome to the siter though. Jim

Leave it be and enjoy it till it starts to show. You will have more into it than what you spent, if it is paint over crap. If it isn't, leave it alone.

Another 72 GMC Longbed Fleetside here encouraging you to keep it fleetside.
Beautiful truck, shame about the rust. Maybe use this opportunity to learn welding and painting. That's what I'm doing with my 72.

Unless you stole that truck I also would enjoy it as it sits. Once you let the "genie out of the bottle" you will find you have opened up a huge can of worms.
Go to the local shows and ask who has had work done and was happy about the price as well as the length of time it took to do the repairs/paint. Ultimately your truck so you can do whatever you want, this is only J.M.O.

Welcome to the forum... That sport bumper is definitely showing some serious rot, you better sell it to me before it looks much worse.
Good looking truck though! Ditto to the other guys, once you start "fixing rust" it turns into a zoo real fast. If you have a little rust you are sure to find more. Drive it, enjoy it. Paul
