New gig , time to pack
I have accepted a resident position in Sakhalin Russia! I've been there a few times previously and really liked it! Pending work visa processing I hope to be moving in June/July timeframe. Given I could have been offered Nigeria, I'm relieved lol

Re: New gig , time to pack
Good luck to you but given those two options, I would've been hunting a new job.

Re: New gig , time to pack
AS bad as it is here in the USA there is no way I would EVER move to ANY part of Russia and certainly not Nigeria...

Will you be taking your truck over there? Is it a permanent position?

Re: New gig , time to pack
Don't think your truck or the Buick will like it there... temperature, bears, reindeer, bad roads. Better leave 'em with me here in central Florida. They'll be MUCH happier.

what a cool opportunity! enjoy the newness of the experience and try out as many local customs as you can during your stay. what a cool thing to be able to sit and tell your grand kids about years from now.
enjoy! |

Re: New gig , time to pack
Been to Nigeria...not a good place to go for sure. I wish you luck in your new assignment but with the political environment nowadays I don't think I would go to the location you are transferring to either.
No matter, just like Willie mentioned above, it will be a good story in the future! Wish you the best of luck and happiness.

Re: New gig , time to pack
We are selling our primary vehicles but I will be keeping the toys along with our house/shop. My dad and oldest son promise to keep an eye on the toys lol.
This is our second resident assignment with the first one bring Malaysia, prior to that I spent seven years rotating to Angola Africa. We are looking forward to the adventure! I'll post plenty of pics along the way Thanks for the kind words!

Re: New gig , time to pack
Having not been to either, but given the same option, I'd definitely have chosen Sikhalin as well.
You don't happen to work for Shell Oil Co. do you?

Re: New gig , time to pack
Wow cool!! As in 15 feet of snow, icebergs, lots of minus degree temps. Sakhalin is only 20some miles from wakkanai japan across the water. That's a wonderful place, I lived there off and on for 2 years.
Enjoy, take advantage of the adventure!!! Best of luck |

Re: New gig , time to pack
Well at least you'll be missing a lot of the Winter cold/ snow. Are you heading to Chayvo or staying in Yuzhno?

Re: New gig , time to pack
It's been a few years, but the train ride back from Nogliki is lot more fun than the train to Nogliki. Have you been to Yuzhno before?

So what do you do for Exxon? I worked at Chayvo a little during construction of the OPF.

Re: New gig , time to pack
You'll probably run into my old company DRC International then. We held an MRO supply contract with Exxon for Chayvo. We also were contracted to run the tool room. That was a couple years ago, not sure if they still have that contract or not.
