Replacing Vent Windows -- Before or After New Paint??
Well, I've stripped the truck down to get it ready for a respray. I've got almost everything off, only thing left is all the glass
I am planning to replace the vent windows and I found a very nice pair in the junkyard. I assume I should pull the old beat up ones, get the truck painted and then swap in the nice ones? Risk of course is f'ing up the new paint if I do it this way Please advise -- Thanks |

Yes, pull all glass. When reinstalling vent windows tape off the top of the door and edges real good. There are good write ups in FAQ on the removal and reinstallation of the side glass and vent windows.

Re: Replacing Vent Windows -- Before or After New Paint??
i would either put the new ones in and the mask them off real good before painting or be extremely careful when putting the new ones in after paint. when i took mine out to replace the seal and rivets i scratched the top pretty good and putting them back in it was kind of inevitable on my truck

Pull them. IIRC you cannot put the side window in without pulling the vent. You might get by with putting them in just loose and turning them sideways and taping them up.
I'm not sure the side glass will fit this way.

You can't get a proper paint job when painting around the rubber on the vent windows. You can certainly install them after paint, just requires lots of care. Good luck and have fun.

They are easy to install. Do it after paint.

Not sure I'd say its easy, at least not the first time you install them. I'd pull them, then do a quick reinstall just to get the hang of it. Already said, but lots of good advice and tips here on the site. Good luck and pics of the new paint?

Re: Replacing Vent Windows -- Before or After New Paint??
I put mine on last night, it's tricky but be careful. The guy that painted my truck told me to take it home and assemble it, then bring it back and he'll fix the scratches. It's gonna happen.
