Few concerns with ECE install
I was mocking up my brake lines and noticed that my ECE pan hard bar may interfere with my C-Notch. I have ECE trailing arm cross member, ECE trailing arms, ECE rear springs, ECE shock re-locators as well as their pan hard bar. If you look at the pics, the pan hard bar sits really close to the top of the axle. I don't have my saddles welded to the axle yet, so I'm wondering if I should flip the trailing arm mounts to pivot the pan hard bar downward some. Here are the pictures, what are your thoughts?

I'm not familiar with the ece setup so can't give you input there. I am wondering how that nicop brake line worked out for ya?

Re: Few concerns with ECE install
The brake line is very easy to work with. I tried Poly Armour as well as the O'Rielly's house brand (Eldeman) and the NICOP was by far the easiest to work with. It is very soft so you will need to figure out a way to isolate the line with rubber brackets. I'm still in the process of figuring all that out so I don't have any photos yet. I found that the CTA inline flaring tool works excellent with this tubing. It flares excellent 100% of the time. My Craftsman flaring tool is 50/50. Highly recomend the CTA inline tool when working with the NICOP.

Re: Few concerns with ECE install
bbcmudtruck,
I know this has been a repeat complaint from others using the ECE rear set-up. Unfortunately, they haven't changed their design to eliminate the interference issue. I know the recommendation has been made to them to relocate the bracket so it sits completely on the inside of the rail vs on the T/A (thus under the rail). A lowering block will help w/drop + provide additional clearance or utilizing a different T/A mount that doesn't sit on top of the T/A. Some have opened/stretched the c-notch area but it seems easier too me to tweak/change the position of the bracket.

Re: Few concerns with ECE install
Hey thanks Scoti, I was hoping you would chime in! This is the first I've heard of the issue. I haven't seen anyone else bring it up, although I'm sure it has been discussed. Currently I have 6" drop springs and was planning on adding another inch of blocks. At this point, I'm wondering if maybe I should just order up a kit from Rob@nolimit. Thoughts?

Re: Few concerns with ECE install
The ECE kit will work fine.
If you completely air out your axle tube (with bags) the center section of the rearend will hit the bed floor before your axle tube touches the notch. I have a 6" ECE drop spring on my red '69 with a 1.5" lowering block and it works fine. You could also switch to a CPP trailing arm mount which positions the track bar lower. (in the middle of the trailing arm, instead of above the trailing arm like the ECE bracket does) I would rather have the track bar as close to horizontal as possible. I would add a lowering block if I were you.

Re: Few concerns with ECE install
Thanks for all the help fellas! I'm planning on adding a 1" block, so hopefully that will help. I sort of wanted to put the truck together with the bbc to see how the vehicle is going to sit before I started changing suspension setup. With that said, I might go ahead an build a bracket that will lower the mounting point for the ECE bar. I'll study it this weekend and see about making a bracket that moves it lower. Thanks!!

Re: Few concerns with ECE install
That PFAB bracket looks great and seems to solve the problem. Is the bracket that attaches to the trailing arm available only?

Bump!
Does anyone know what these brackets are for? I emailed ECE and never heard back from them. Thanks! |

Are the holes the same size as the T/A u-bolts? I wonder if they could possibly be some sort of sway bar mounting pads?
