Suspension swap for Logan's 66 question

I know with time searching, I can find what I need but I want to get fresh info. Logan sold his 283 (has LT1 now) so he has $450 to put in his suspension. My though is to try and find a later model donor truck. He has a spun bearing in the rear diff and drum brakes all the way around. 5 lug all the way around with disc's up front and maybe discs in the rear later. Chassis is ready to go, painted by Logan...
I want everyone's input on the best way to go for the money...
Thanks, Paul...

drop?

I would find you a donor, hopefully cheap. I would send Logan to talk to the guy if its an individual, just for the kid factor!

Re: Suspension swap for Logan's 66 question

There are lots of guys on here with more experience then me, but this is where I am right now with my 62. When it's all done it will be updated to an 80's front and rear suspension, disc front/drum rear brakes, 5 lug conversion, w/ power brakes and existing PS steering re-done.

I bought used parts and spending the time/money to rebuild as I go.

Here's what I have bought, w/ part numbers and prices:

81 Front suspension/crossmember/ w/ control arms and all brake parts (used) $200
80's 12 Bolt Rear 3.07 gears /set of Rally wheels $200 CL
PS Gear $125 Napa 39-1039
Tie Rod Ends/ Couplers $75 Moog (2) ES409RT, (2) ES409LT (2)ES2004S
Booster Mcyl w/ proportion valve Summit- (Right Stuff) G85310971 $170
Booster Bracket/Axle Perches/Steering Plate from CaptnFab on this site.

MarkB01 has a great thread on doing the conversion, and there is tons of support here on getting it done.

I think it's great that you are getting your son "Actively" involved in doing the project! My son and I are working on mine as well.

Good Luck,

Thanks guys, I think the way to go is in fact a donor truck. What year span will work with minimal modification?

Re: Suspension swap for Logan's 66 question

SO BUMMED!!!!
So I had a front and rear suspension on hold for Logan, just an hour away from San Antonio. All set to go and pick it up. My buddy found a rolling chassis, that a friend of his had. He said I could get it for the same price. Of course a better deal with all the extra parts like the brake booster etc. So He said to go ahead and cancel with the guy in SA, so I did. Didn't like doing that but I did. We waited for Logan to get out of school so he could go with us and you know, be a part of this deal. So all excited, we head out to where this chassis is. We get there and its a a single axle one ton...UGH...Now we/he has nothing...I feel so bad for him. He just started drivers training a few days ago and was looking forward to getting back on the truck after that...
