88-98 single cab with no headliner?

Mine is sagging and I've read through some threads about re-covering it but has anyone took it out and left it out?

Is the metal smooth and clean-looking like the 68-72s that never had a headliner?

I'm planning on leaving all the rest of the trim around the edges but just not having a headliner at all.

You'll have the backer up there. Just the cloth drops down off of that. There are headliner guys who glue those back up. It's not that expensive. Even with cleaning down to the metal I'm not sure how it will look with the trim. Might look fine

It should be smooth. I have a friend whose truck came factory with no headliner and it didn't look bad.

It ain't smooth, it's double-wall thick. I'll shoot a pic of the one I have stripped down and post it when I have a chance.
It ain't the look, it's the noise that'll be annoying. The headliner really quiets one down.

Re: 88-98 single cab with no headliner?

Thanks all.

I don't drive it as much as I used to and it smells musty now and the headliner is sagging pretty bad.

It's been parked most of the winter and I think it's leaking somewhere and got the carpet wet.

I need to shampoo the carpet and get the headliner out and either have it re-done or leave it out.

It's actually not bad at all, smooth with 2 holes on each side. Worst looking part is spot welds across the front but they're mostly hidden by visors. Looks a lot better than I had remembered. The floor on the other hand...

I think the floor is the problem
