Window channel guide repair - budget method.

So, i had an issue with my window faling off a track and sliding backwards, allowing the glass to tip in towards the cab, or out towards the street.

Turns out that the guide that bolts to the door was missing. The two brackets that are riveted to the guide cracked, and ultimately broke.

Well, im broke and dont have money to get new guides, so it's time to fix this. Poorboy style. My S10 blazer has lovingly provided me with sheet metal for various projects. Time to visit the carcass.

I started by taking some measurements from the existing legs off the guide, and ended up with this

Trim down the bolts, and you end up with this

Make a hole on the bottom bracket so you can mark the upper hole and make sure it lines up with the window.

I used a self tapping screw, but will change it out for a machine bolt soon enough

Not for nothing man - I love you. Really do. But:
Save file.
Open with Paint.
Home Tab
Resize.
20 - 25%
Save as.
Life is good.

I can't tell if you're making fun of me, but hey, peace to you.

I just wanted to show a cheap way of fixing this since I couldn't find any leads on an aftermarket replacement, and I was short on money.

I used sheet metal because it was the only option available to me, and I figured someone else could copy what I did.

I think he was complimenting the work Figuarus. I don't think he knows The Rocknrod just shrunk the pics. HT is a Navy term and hes retired Navy. My grandfather retired USN with 34 years and that's where I've heard the term.

Re: Window channel guide repair - budget method.

HT was Hull Maintenance Technician. It came about when they combined DC (Damage Controlman) and Shipfitter. They've since divided them up. It's a compliment because HTs did everything from wooden boat repair to nuclear component welding. Kind of a jack of all trades rate.
