Hard Top Modification/Summer Top

Anyone seen this set up before. Thinking about doing this to my spare top. Wondering how much weight You would eliminate by removing hatch and glass. probably be a lot easier to take on and off.

Only thing I would worry about is if it isn't as ridged without the glass in the sides. Is a cool idea though.

Why not get a soft top? Then you can run with the side & back in place, safari style or with the top all the way down.

I like this idea, except for the top of the top....

Maybe we need someone to make one out of carbon fiber ....

Re: Hard Top Modification/Summer Top

I saw a video on youtube of a top without glass easily cracking in half, granted the guy in the video was on an off road trail, but it still looked super flimsy before it broke.

Don't like the roll up window set up on the softopper. Can't get it in white. Not sure I want to pay $900 for top + either $250 for header or drill wholes in the window frame. Taking the hatch off and windows out might lighten it up and make it manageable for 2 people to get on and off. Once the top comes off for summer usually only put it back on for long trips. Hard to find willing neighbors to help. Tend to run in the house and lock the doors and windows when they think the top might be going back on ! Wondering how much weight you would lose by doing it.
