Knocking sound, any advice? Thanks!
The 350 TBI has devolved a tapping/knocking noise at idle, noticeable but not really loud. Checked oil it was a little low, added some went away for a little while. Knocking came back at stop light after maybe an hour. Also, my oil gauge on cluster is making a clicking noise and is always on the first line lately while driving sometimes after adding oil it moves to almost the center line but quickly goes back to the first line, it kind of vibrates while driving.
Could this be the engine going out? It seems to run really well and picks up speed with no issue. I usually only drive in overdrive to save gas not sure if that matters. Any advice is greatly appreciated thanks in advance for your time. 90 burb 350tbi unknown miles.

I use a 3' long piece of pex tubing to listen to whatever I think might be making some noise. I thought I had a bad knock..Turned out to be the bolts came loose on my flex plate.

Possible lifter. Pull oil sample is the surest way. have to find a company who test them. Cut filter apart any metal last pull pan pull rod bearing first.

Re: Knocking sound, any advice? Thanks!
Rod bearing infamous tapping/ticking...was told by a mechanic yesterday just by listening to it and it started to smoke at take off pretty bad...white/gray smoke out tailpipe. Bs oil gauge, now I know to constantly check oil and stop being lazy not wanting to do it. O well, live in learn. I'll ride it until I can no longer, thinking about either dropping a vortec 4.8-5.7 or 5.3 will be my daily so fuel economy is my main concern here.
Is the th700r4 compatible with any vortec engines from '96-06? Thanks. Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by cfan10; 04-23-2015 at 08:12 AM. |

Took it to another mechanic he got under the truck and said I had a loose flywheel bolt and a hairline crack. Tapping/knocking went away for awhile. Oil gauge is still clicking and not reading. Where is the oil pressure sender on 90 suburban 350tbi. I cleaned the throttle body real good this time runs much better now. Fingers crossed.
