uh huh yeah, no
So today was a nice day out and 8ts supposed to be nice the rest of the summer, might get some rain but oh well. I decided to go top less. I found cancer, bad cancer where the topper meets the half cab. Pictures art uploading right now so I will post them when it will let me.

Ouch. I haven't had the top off my 85 yet, now I'm worried. My 79 has some cancer there.

Re: uh huh yeah, no
The seal on the top was almost nonexistent where the cancer is, so I might do a full top conversion. The rot goes through both roof layers in spots, but it's not visible from the interior so it may still be fixable.

Because it's the top of the vehicle like the roof on your house, only your house doesn't have a seam across from one side to the other. The seal is all that keeps rain out and water gets trapped in there. It's very common for full top K/5 windshield frames to rot out, too.

Re: uh huh yeah, no
I used to always hear, once you took the top off they leaked. That was the word back in the day. I figured that was one reason they didn't make GMT400s removable. That, or safety of surveys stating most never came off (or all the above). I know on my '90 I never removed it for the 18 years I had it.
