One ton dually to 1/2 conversion

i have a 1989 r3500 crew cab daully. i was looking to see how different the crossmembers were from the one ton 2wd trucks and the 1/2 ton 2wd trucks, hopefully interchangeable. Also how the rear spring and shackle mounts compared. i was wondering because i also have a 1985 shortbed c10 rolling chassis that has been lowered with spindles, springs, axle flip.
i was hoping i could swap crossmembers and leaf spring packs along with axles maybe the shackle mounts if needed.
opinions are welcome to whether or not i should do the swap

Yes lowered duallys look sweet but so do single rear wheel crew cabs

Re: One ton dually to 1/2 conversion

The 1-ton crossmember is different due to the frame height. If you have both trucks you can get underneath up front and measure the frame height at the crossmember and measure the crossmember height at where it mounts to the frame as well to verify.

Re: One ton dually to 1/2 conversion

We did one a long time ago ...

I think we used the 1/2 ton lower control arm and springs/spindles and the original 1 ton upper control arm with a 1/2 ton ball joint.

At the rear we took the spring hangars and everything off the 1/2 ton and installed on the one ton frame

I think we had to redo the rear shock upper mounts

Stretch the driveshaft and you are done .....
