which ball joints do i need

Hey guys I got a 66 stepside and I just bought a set of mcgaughys drop spindles. when I bought them the salesman said that I should be able to use original parts when I do switch from drums to disc. He said get calipers/discs and pads for a 71 C10, my question is what ball joints do I need to get, 66' or 71' thanks for the help

Re: which ball joints do i need

try test fitting the old ball joints into the new spindles. Make sure they taper up into the spindles tight, but don't allow them to set because youll have to separate them again. IF it does taper in there with the stock, with enough thread set castle nut and looks like you can get carter pin in, then youll need stock. I didn't use mcgaughys drop spindles, so I cant tell ya from experience, but this is how I would approach it.
Hope this helps

This is incorrect.
63-70 or 71-72.
This can be verified by any parts store.

If you bought Mcgaughy's direct bolt on spindles for your 66 stepside,... you need 63-70 balljoints if your originals are wore out.

63-70:
Upper: FA480
Lower: FA481

(71-72 uses FA683 upper and FA1014 lower)
