water pump swap question

I need to do some modification on either the water pump or the radiator. Went from 216 to 235 on my 49 standard, and the fan is all the way into the radiator bracket on mock up. Is there a water pump solution for the 235 with a shorter fa vs. messing with the original radiator bracket and radiator position? Something like this -> http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/195...ater_pump.html

Thanks

Pat

Re: water pump swap question

You can place the radiator on the front side of the radiator support and gain 3 inches.
You will need to modify the upper and lower valances but that fairly easy.

Re: water pump swap question

They make a plate that mounts to the front of the motor that lowers the water pump so that the fan sets in the middle of rad. and uses a short pump. Check on Stovebold sight for more info.

Re: water pump swap question

Hey Randy, I did the research you mentioned on the plate (adaptor) and that's the direction I'm going in. I found it on Ebay for 40 + 5, and can use my original 216 Water Pump.

Thanks

Pat

Re: water pump swap question

Pat glad I could help, thats the one I used and it works great. You will need to run a 3/8 wide belt so the pump does not turn to fast and cavite. Randy

Re: water pump swap question

I have shortened the shaft on a few 235 water pumps and used a V8 fan pulley that is shorter. You have to press the hub back on the shaft the difference (exact) between the height/length of the pulleys.
You then cut the shaft off leaving about as much sticking out of the hub as there was originally. You have to have the pump of and use a press to do it though.
I just dug though my pulley box until I found a pulley that was the right size with the right bolt pattern that I am pretty sure came off a short pump V8.

The belts line up, the radiator goes in it's original place without hacking anything up and you don't have to buy any special parts for XX$$.
