Can I run both parking lights?

I have an 86 C10 that has the 81-82 front bumper with parking lamps in the bumper with a billet grille. I am wanting to go back with the OEM grille which has the parking lamps behind the grille.

The question is, can I wire up both pairs of parking lamps to work?

Yes you can, if you know how to wire up blinkers and running lights.

Re: Can I run both parking lights?

If you want the blinkers to work in both upper and lower you have to make sure you are running 552 or electronic flashers or the lights will blink at the wrong speed.

Re: Can I run both parking lights?

So all I need to do then is splice into the existing wires that run to the parking lights in the bumper? And also add a flasher relay?

Re: Can I run both parking lights?

yes just splice into the existing T/S wiring and make sure you have the 552 heavy duty flashers in the fuse box. and you should be good to go.

Re: Can I run both parking lights?

I got an 82 bumper for my 83 and I plan to use the bumper parking lights as daytime running lights - hooked up to an ignition controlled circuit.

That looks outstanding!!

Tough to beat the looks of the original grilles in my opinion.

Re: Can I run both parking lights?

This is an original gm grille. It's for the van, so it was a lot less expensive. Still fits though. It took months to find all the parts needed to put the whole grille together, and with a little help from natedogg, he set me up with the grille moldings emblem and marker lights. I just had to clean the old tape off the moldings and then retape them with vinyl tape.
So the grille and the 4 small chrome molding on the sides are new gm parts, the rest is old gm parts, but refurbished. I am very happy with the outcome

Re: Can I run both parking lights?

Looks Great!
I cleaned off my center stainless trim and bought some red vinyl. How did you cut and install the vinyl on the trim, I know it is adhesive backed just wondering how you put it on. Thanks, Mike

If the grille moldings are off the grille, it will be much easier to install. I just measured the area that I wanted the tape and then cut the vinyl with a straight edge and a very sharp razor knife. Starting at one end, just peel and stick. Whats hard, is getting all the bubbles out. I really didn't like the look after I tried it several times. So after I got a layer down with very little bubbles, I then just used another cut piece of vinyl, left the backing on the back. I used a good quality spray adhesive, sprayed both the back side of the tape & the molding (mask off the area you don't want the spray to get on). Layed that on the molding & smoothed it on, ensuring that all areas of the adhesive on the tape is making good contact. This actually gave a more smooth look that I was after.
