Dealer Windshield Gasket

After reading about the after market windshield gasket problems, I decided to contact the local Chevy dealership about one from them. They told me I could buy one new for about $225.00 for the gasket and $75.00 for the chrome insert.

My question, are the Chevy/GM ones any better than the after market stuff?

If they are better, I can see paying the extra cash for something that fits and does not leak. I'd hate to buy the after market stuff and end up with something that leaks, has to be redone three times to get it right.

I just wonder at this point does the Chevy dealer get their stuff from the same place or are they truly better?

What's the old saying "You can pay me now or pay me later".

Any help would be great.

Re: Dealer Windshield Gasket

When it comes to the weatherstripping, I have gotten most it for my truck, from Presicion or USA1. What I like about Precision too, is that they have all sorts of videos on YouTube on How To Install a lot of their products. I can't say I've noticed any difference in the product itself. My windshield gasket has been replaced and I just installed the chrome reveal just a few weeks ago. I haven't had any issue.

My .02 most of the products out there are similar in material and design. Where the difference comes into play is the actual installation of the parts. If you are concerned about leaks then the replacement should have sealant between the gasket and body, there should also be sealant between the gasket and the glass. I have skimped on the sealant in the past to make it easy on clean up and have paid the price, to me a little extra clean up is better than wet carpet.

The sealant process, does make more than enough sense to me. Sounds like the thing to do is go with the Precision seal, with sealant. Since I'm putting in a whole new interior with carpet, etc.. don't want at any cost.

Thanks,

Paul
