My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
Well, My son and I have made significance progress in the last several months. We have managed to remove almost all the old ugly brown repaint over the original Seamiest Jade paint. I have here a before and after picture, pretty significant change for the better just using a hose and pressure washer. It looks very cool now!

Nice transformation! Truck looks great.
I especially like the hubcaps. Will you be painting the wheels black for a complete stock look?

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
Hello,
Thank you! We are very happy with the outcome! Ya, I will be painting the wheels black. I picked up a few sets of the white 1961-1963 hubcaps, I also picked up a original 1960-62 front chrome bumper in decent condition as well, but installed that yet. My grill is chrome/aluminum with a white bumper now. I really would like the chrome hubcaps if I can find any or I may just chrome one of the sets I have. Not sure yet. We still have allot of little spots to clean up that I know will clean I am pretty sure with that power washer, allot of it was cleaned off literally with just a hose bib and a higher pressure nozzle, but I have a friend who had a power washer and WOW! Much better. Ill be posting more picture as we progress on it. I kinda like the patina, but I would like also to repaint it the original color. I also found the original material for the seat as well and will be correctly redoing the seat as the factory did. I will to stay all original with the truck has a neat history, had same owner since 1962 here in AZ. |

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
Cleaned up great. I'm sure as your finding out the stock 61-63 caps are hard to find in the chrome finish, but they are out there!!
The 62 aluminum grills were anodized originally and they are quite hard to find also.

Also did you chrome your hubcaps or did you just find them original?

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
They are in original condition. Including the paint on the bowties. Has taken a few years, but I also have a set for the 63 fleetside that's next on deck. And also found my buddys 63 whos at my house a nice patinaed set for his 63.
I had to purchase singles or two here and there to make sets. When full sets come up in very nice condition they command $400+ bucks. Last set I saw went for $550. I purchased the set on my stepside for $250 back in 2009.

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
Oh yeah.....would definitely look good. I don't know what the cost would be to have them plated, but they would definitely stand out!!!

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
I think the paint in the bowties in my hubcaps are original accept one of them in the other set I have. These were a nice original set I got on eBay about a month ago.

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
Mine are still in OEM paint....but Cardinal red seems to be the popular choice. I have tried several times to find the correct paint code, even contacted several companies that supplied to GM in the 60's and cannot find a solid answer. I have a NOS 63 emblem....and GM cardinal red is the closest color match I can find to it.

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
I'm sure they would.....its what they would charge that would be the deciding factor for me.

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
I had some NOS painted caps chromed. The chrome guy said to give him the caps as is , not to try and strip them. He did a real nice job. Gonna put them on my matching Fleetside box trailer and will have to do another set for the Airstream. Seems like the wheels with clips are easier to find hubcaps for.

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
The caps I had chromed do not look any better than the originals on my truck. Told him not to go nuts on them.

Thanks! I plan to keep it all original as I can.. Pretty much a one owner truck since 1962, it has a factory 283 4 speed Custom cab interior. I love the color I never see the seamist jade. Still have allot of work to do though but thanks for the complement, it has been a work in progress and allot of fun for sure! |

Re: My 1962 C10 Custom Cab cleaning progress
That would be a great thread to see all the original colors from the different years.
