1963 engine codes
Please, forgive me if this topic is thoroughly covered elsewhere on this site but what is a good reference source for engine codes? I have two 63s, both with the inline-six, but I'm not sure of their displacement. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Engine suffix will be near the distributor. It will tell you a lot about the engine. Look for the machined pad over the fuel pump next to the distributor.
if stock.....and they have the short side covers (4") they will be the 230's....if they have the 6" covers they will be 292's.

List of suffix codes from 58-65 for straight 6 & sb motors.
link: http://www.348-409.com/suffixsb.htm There are others not on this list. Chevy used a "N" and a "NE" code in 1963 that I'm aware of.
